Since we're kinda talking about him in this thread, here's an interesting (kinda long) article about Ruben from usatoday. It mentions many of the varied acts he's worked with and how he'd love to do a U2 album. Maybe if he says it enough to the right people, it'll happen.

http://www.usatoday.com/life/music/news/2006-07-06-rubin-main_x.htm

Rick Rubin was hanging out backstage at some of U2's LA shows so maybe he and the band have been able to discuss this possibility in person.

Even if U2 brought in Rick Rubin or another producer, Daniel Lanois and Steve Lillywhite would still play some role in whatever the band is putting together, just like they have been for the past 20 years.

Sorry guys..I'm starting to feel truly sorry for our Down Under fans....PLAY OZ and NZ FIRST!?!?!?

Wow - very interesting.. thanks! Didn't Rubin also produce alot of the Chili Peppers work? Just because of his work with Cash and Diamond, I don't think he's creative powers are necessarily limited to solo work and could provide an interesting new approach for U2.

and The Beastie Boys.

Bono's always talked about how much more progressive Hip Hip is than Rock music.

I have no doubt that Rick Rubin would produce a solid album for U2.

My favorite production team would be David Bowie+Brian Eno, but we can all dream.

:) more deatils are coming soon...but i broke my right hand so I can't type :)

the refrains were oh can't you see and thank you for the day, but i don't know what was the third song's refrain, but it has beautiful gitar solos and edge vocal was fantastic as well

if my hand becomes better i'm going to write again

OK, whenever you're ready, zsuzso!

I'm curious to know if the 3 songs you heard reminded you of any U2 albums from the past - could you compare them to anything we have heard before from the band?

That's some exciting news. Sorry to hear about your hand. How did this happen? Hope you get well soon.
So acording to your observations, Bono's infamous Africa-tune has indeed made it into the U2 sessions.

I don't think we'll get a new album until Fall of 2008. There's plenty of stuff for them to release until then, like the gigantic coffee table book and Zoo TV DVD this year and there's still the Milan DVD for maybe next year. So I won't mind waiting if that's the case, but I hope I'm wrong and we get a new album in 2007 anyway.

I'm looking back right now to see if U2 ever released a non-album related single and...well, in the first years maybe and for movie soundtracks... I think, correct me if I'm wrong. There's a rumour about a new single in september because of the release of the Zoo TV DVD and for the book U2 By U2... is this possible? is the snippet of the song in eze the new single? I'm skeptic but hey, if you can dream, then dream out loud...

Well, speaking of movie soundtracks, wasn't U2's name being bandied about awhile ago to possibly do the theme for the upcoming Bond flick "Casino Royale"? :hmm:

I don't think U2 is going to do the bond theme... Chris Cornell or Goldfrapp are strong candidates right now...:eyebrow: I heard that Bono played other songs besides the one we all know in eze... and... I know it sounds crazy but, it makes sense since U2 never realeased a single to support a dvd (video) or book (as far as I know) but for movie soundtrack ... are the other songs kind of bond themes? hahaha... just a wild thought... but who knows...

the theme song from Bond is a strong possibility, kinda like HMTMKMKM for batman forever.
There is no way they'd release a single to support a dvd or book, never.
I don't think that them releasing a new book or dvd's would stop them releasing an album. I am sure they will release something significant before spring 2007. An autumn 2008 release would be absolutely ridiculous and would try even my patience with the boys. I'd swap 1000 dvd releases for 1 brilliant new album and i'm sure most fans would agree.

Yep. I agree with you.

I don't think they're doing Casino Royale though...:hmm:
