U2 Wins at Ivors

The Streets, aka Mike Skinner, won best song, musically and lyrically, at the Ivor Novello awards with Dry Your Eyes.

Troubled former Libertines singer Pete Doherty was nominated in the best contemporary song category, but lost out to Franz Ferdinand with Take Me Out.

Keane were named songwriters of the year.

Vertigo by U2 was international hit of the year.

Toxic by Britney Spears was named the most performed work.

The award for best-selling UK single went to Do They Know It's Christmas? by Band Aid 20.

Rolling Stones Sir Mick Jagger and Keith Richards were given a special songwriting award.

Duran Duran were honoured for their outstanding contribution to British music, Queen for their outstanding song collection, and Robert Smith of the Cure won an award for international achievement.

The Ivor Novello awards, in their 50th anniversary year, were held at the Grosvenor House Hotel on London's Park Lane.
