please allow me to introduce myself

....okay I just couldn't resist the cheesey Stones reference.

I figured I'd say "hi" before I jump in and start posting to the rest of the boards. I suppose y'all can just read my profile, but I'll give you a wee bit of info--I'm a DJ and audio engineer and an academic, I study 20th century Irish history and will likely be doing so at Queens in Belfast starting next fall. I've been a U2 fan since.....well I don't remember, but they're the band that got me into music... and I'll argue with anyone who contends that Zooropa isn't their best album.

Cheers everyone,

Laura

Laura, I find it really interesting that you studied 20th century Irish history. Any particular part you were specialising in? How did you feel about it overall?

The reason I ask is that, as you can see under my "From", I'm Irish. Not just that but I am studying both Irish and European history for the time frame 1868-1968. Just interested to know what you make of it.

Welcome to the forums by the way!

I love Zooropa too...

The First Time, Dirty Days and Some Days are Better than Others are great songs that weren't singles.

I'm mostly interested in Irish nationalism since 1969, so I guess you can say I study the Troubles. My current research is focusing on Sinn Fein between 1981-1998...I'll be holing myself up in the NI Political Collection at the Linen Hall Library in Belfast for awhile in January....I won't bore everyone with the details. Sufficient to say that I am quite taken with the subject and I'm pursuing a PhD in Irish Studies [as an aside, I speak several languages, but Irish is by far the most difficult to learn].

I could take a good guess at why 1968 is your ending date, but why start with 1868? Just curious.

Cheers!
