Here is where ATYCLB is charting around the world in WEEK 92/93:

IRELAND #39
UNITED STATES #176

Sales this week in the USA for ATYCLB are 6,378. Total sales since release in the USA are now 3,947,492! Global sales for the week are estimated at at least 6,778. Global sales since release are now estimated at 10,976,515!

In Ireland, ATYCLB shoots up 14 places to #39! The BEST OF....1980-1990 is at #38! After 93 weeks on chart in Ireland, the lowest that ATYCLB has ranked is #59! Clearly, Ireland is by far the strongest buyer per capita of ATYCLB! The album seems like it could stay for years on the Irish charts, while everywhere else it has naturally dropped off and is about to in the USA.

Hi Sting2.

I just looked at the Canadian charts, and ATYCLB charted at #101 last week and has jumped up to #82 this week! Not sure what is going on, but it sure is good news!

Week 93 U.S. Chart News

Week 93 U.S. Chart News

During Weeks 80-92 of ATYCLB?s release in the U.S., ATYCLB has bounced between #107 and a lowly #187 on the U.S. charts, with sales fluctuating by as much as 2,800 copies between weeks.
  • In Week 81, ATYCLB dropped to #119 on the U.S. Billboard charts (down from #107 in Week 80) and sold 9,321 copies, down from 11,712 copies the week prior (Week 80).
  • In Week 82, the album dropped to #131. However, its sales remained very steady, even increasing ever so slightly, to 9,353 copies.
  • In Week 83, there was a mini-rebound as the album bounced up to #118 on the U.S. Billboard charts. It also increased slightly in sales to 9,415 copies.
  • In Week 84, the album dropped again down to #130 with 8,164 copies sold.
  • In Week 85, the album bounced back up to #117, the highest position it has held since Week 80, with sales of 10,947 copies - an increase of almost 2,800 copies!
  • In Week 86, ATYCLB dropped to #135. Sales for the week were 8,589 copies, down almost 2,400 copies from the week prior.
  • In Week 87, ATYCLB dropped to #153 on the U.S. charts with sales of only 7,752 copies.
  • In Week 88, ATYCLB rebounded to #142 (up 11 spots) and saw sales of 8,411 copies, up almost 700 copies from Week 87.
  • In Week 89, ATYCLB dropped to #161 (a drop of 19 places!) with sales of just 6,864 copies - down nearly 1,600 copies from the week prior.
  • In Week 90, the downward slide continued. ATYCLB slipped to #173, with sales of 6,327 copies, a drop of about 500 copies. While the chart slide (12 positions) may be alarming, the overall sales remain fairly stable.
  • In Week 91, the album reached new lows, charting at a dismal #187 (a drop of 14 places on the chart!). However, sales remained very steady as ATYCLB sold 6,119 copies this week, a drop of only 200 copies from the week prior.
  • In Week 92, ATYCLB finally had a mini-rebound and rose to #176 on the U.S. charts, ending its streak of 6 consecutive weeks of falling. It also saw a sales increase to 6,378 copies, an improvement of 250 copies from the week prior.

Will this upward trend continue? Will ATYCLB finally get a new "lease on life" and linger in the Top 200 for a few more months?

Well....

The answer might sadly be no.

In Week 93, ATYCLB drops back down to #185. This is not the lowest chart position it has has (it hit #187 in Week 91), but sales dropped to a very low 5,728 copies. This is a sales drop of exactly 650 copies, or about 11% decrease, from last week. While the actual decline is not huge, this marks a new low in sales for ATYCLB in the U.S. Next week will be the true test. If ATYCLB can rebound or remain relatively stagnant, it just might survive the summer. If it drops even lower, then it will probably only be on the charts another week or two at most - of course, this is assuming it even remains on the charts next week.

Also of interest... with these sales, if ATYCLB were to transition to the Catalog charts today, it would only chart at #26. Clearly, U2 needs a new release or more exposure in order to keep this album selling a bit stronger for a while - and perhaps the second "Best Of" will give it a boost.

Exact U.S. SoundScan sales are: 3,953,220 copies (note that the sum of the weekly estimates is off from the exact total due to rounding). The album is now a mere 46,780 copies from the 4x Platinum mark in the U.S. and has crossed the 3.95 million mark. :D

Here is a bit more U.S. chart news for this week.

The "Elevation" VHS video has charted at #18-21-26-27=22 in the last five weeks. It is now in its 36th week on the music video charts. Here are the sales figures for the past 12 weeks:
1,253 - 1, 214 - 1,124 - 1,746 - 1,314 ? 1,078 - 1,043 - 1,003 - 995 - 921 - 930 - 918.

The DVD version of the video (also out on the charts for 36 weeks) is seen on DVD music charts. Here are its chart and sales performances the past 12 weeks:
#11- 13 - 13 - 13- 16 - 15 - 18 - 16 - 20 - 21 - 23 - 21
1,162 - 1,137 - 1,045 - 1,614 - 1,223 ? 998 - 965 - 930 - 934 - 886 - 884 - 877

After the holiday season, this video (VHS and DVD combined) has sold between 1,700-4,000 copies each week. These sales, combined with the last holiday season sales easily makes this a Platinum selling (100,000 copies sold) video. My guess is that when U2's label recertifies ATYCLB (as 4x Platinum), they will also certify this video (or at least they should!).

The "Best Of" had enjoyed a nice little rebound on the Pop Catalog charts since U2's Grammy wins, however, this album has fluctuated quite a bit in recent weeks. Only recently has it started to level off. Here are its chart and sales performances for the past 12 weeks:
#79 - 66 - 52 - 45 ? 42 - 47 - 55 - 63 - 83 - 75 - 84 - 79
3,638 - 3,835 - 4,258 - 5,562 - 4,597 ? 4,241 - 4,258 - 3,677 - 3,524 - 3,613 - 3,558 - 3,485

Unfortunately, the "Best Of - Limited Edition" (the one with b-sides) and "The Joshua Tree", which had also been charting in the Top 200 on the Catalog charts for a while, both dropped out three weeks ago. This indicates that both saw sales below 2,039 copies this week, 2,041 copies last week, 2,005 copies two weeks back and 2,019 copies three weeks prior. That said, based on past data, it still appears that JT sells close to 2,000 copies a week in the U.S., even if it doesn't chart in the Top 200.

As always, I thank Melissa for sending me the SoundScan report so I could present these accurate numbers.

I believe that it's now obviously apparent that the album won't make it the full two years before being placed onto the Top 200 Catalog Albums Chart. I'd say there's one more week (two if we're lucky) that the album will stay in the top 200. Oh well, at least in November, we'll have TWO albums to watch in the Catalog Chart (possibly even 3, 4, or 5 thanks to the new Best Of) along with the new compilation in the top 200 charts. Plus, don't forget the new songs from the new greatest hits set, along with the possibility of the track from the new Martin Scorsece flick making it onto the charts as well. This fall is going to be fun for chart fanatics like myself.
