This week total sales of ATYCLB in the USA were 6,119. Total sales since Oct 31, 2000 in the USA for ATYCLB are now 3,941,114! Global sales this past week are estimated at 7,419. ATYCLB World total to date is now estimated at 10,969,737!

Occasionally the Canadian chart prints the top 200 positions instead of just the top 100, but this usually only happens once every couple of months. It is possible next week that the only chart info for ATYCLB to report will be from Ireland. Keep your fingers cross though, and maybe Canada will print the top 200 positions again instead of just top 100, and hopefully the albums sales will hang on in the USA. Even if it does not, it is possible that the albums sales will continue to be strong enough that each week it will have a chance to peek back on to the Billboard chart in the 190s, maybe. If not, I'm sure will find the album again in November when it will make its debut on the Catalog 200!

Week 92 U.S. Chart News

During Weeks 80-91 of ATYCLB?s release in the U.S., ATYCLB has bounced between #107 and a lowly #187 on the U.S. charts, with sales fluctuating by as much as 2,800 copies between weeks.

• In Week 81, ATYCLB dropped to #119 on the U.S. Billboard charts (down from #107 in Week 80) and sold 9,321 copies, down from 11,712 copies the week prior (Week 80).
  
• In Week 82, the album dropped to #131. However, its sales remained very steady, even increasing ever so slightly, to 9,353 copies.
  
• In Week 83, there was a mini-rebound as the album bounced up to #118 on the U.S. Billboard charts. It also increased slightly in sales to 9,415 copies.
  
• In Week 84, the album dropped again down to #130 with 8,164 copies sold.
  
• In Week 85, the album bounced back up to #117, the highest position it has held since Week 80, with sales of 10,947 copies - an increase of almost 2,800 copies!
  
• In Week 86, ATYCLB dropped to #135. Sales for the week were 8,589 copies, down almost 2,400 copies from the week prior.
  
• In Week 87, ATYCLB dropped to #153 on the U.S. charts with sales of only 7,752 copies.
  
• In Week 88, ATYCLB rebounded to #142 (up 11 spots) and saw sales of 8,411 copies, up almost 700 copies from Week 87.
  
• In Week 89, ATYCLB dropped to #161 (a drop of 19 places!) with sales of just 6,864 copies - down nearly 1,600 copies from the week prior.
  
• In Week 90, the downward slide continued. ATYCLB slipped to #173, with sales of 6,327 copies, a drop of about 500 copies. While the chart slide (12 positions) may be alarming, the overall sales remain fairly stable.
  
• In Week 91, the album reached new lows, charting at a dismal #187 (a drop of 14 places on the chart!). However, sales remained very steady as ATYCLB sold 6,119 copies this week, a drop of only 200 copies from the week prior.

With ATYCLB dropping a whopping 45 positions on the chart in the last three weeks, was this the last we would see of ATYCLB on the U.S. Billboard Top 200? Had ATYCLB's run on the U.S. charts finally come to an end? Would there be no U.S. Week 92 news to report?

NO! Joy!


I had hoped for at least one or two more rebounds for ATYCLB before the summer ended, and finally it appears we got one. ATYCLB rises to #176 on the U.S. charts, ending its streak of 6 consecutive weeks of falling. It also sees a sales increase to 6,378 copies, an improvement of 250 copies from the week prior.

"POP" was out of the Top 100 after 19 weeks and "Zooropa" was out of the Top 100 after 31 weeks. ATYCLB fell out of the Top 100 after 40 weeks, however, it had returned for an additional 34 weeks.

ATYCLB spent 74 out of 92 total weeks in the U.S. Top 100; 30 weeks in the U.S. Top 40; and 3 weeks in the U.S. Top 10. "POP" spent only a mere 28 weeks in the Top 200.

Here is a bit more U.S. chart news for this week.

The "Elevation" VHS video has charted at #18-21-26-27 in the last four weeks. It is now in its 35th week on the music video charts. Here are the sales figures for the past 11 weeks:
1,253 - 1, 214 - 1,124 - 1,746 - 1,314 ? 1,078 - 1,043 - 1,003 - 995 - 921 - 930.

The DVD version of the video (also out on the charts for 35 weeks) is seen on DVD music charts. Here are its chart and sales performances the past 11 weeks:

After the holiday season, this video (VHS and DVD combined) has sold between 1,800-4,000 copies each week. These sales, combined with the last holiday season sales easily makes this a Platinum selling (100,000 copies sold) video. My guess is that when U2's label recertifies ATYCLB (as 4x Platinum), they will also certify this video (or at least they should!).

The "Best Of" had enjoyed a nice little rebound on the Pop Catalog charts since U2's Grammy wins, however, this album has fluctuated quite a bit in recent weeks. Only recently has it started to level off. This week it drops on the charts and in sales, however, its sales only decrease by a scant 55 copies. Here are its chart and sales performances for the past 11 weeks:

Unfortunately, the "Best Of - Limited Edition" (the one with b-sides) and "The Joshua Tree", which had also been charting in the Top 200 on the Catalog charts for a while, both dropped out two weeks ago. This indicates that both saw sales below 2,041 copies this week, 2,005 copies last week and 2,019 copies the week prior. That said, based on past performances, it still appears that JT sells close to 2,000 copies a week in the U.S., even if it doesn't chart in the Top 200.

This is great news. I really thought last week may have been it. A rebound to #176 is a lot more breathing room it seems. Electric Storm hits radio on September 16, about a month away. A video should be available for it as well. Just another month and the album could get a slight boost, or at least a stabilization of its sales. It does not take much to effect chart position on this part of the chart. If everyone here at Interference went out and bought a copy of ATYCLB for a friend in the same week, that would be enough to see it bounce a few positions upwards.

It will be great if ATYCLB can stick it out on the Billboard 200 for a full 104 weeks, but of course by week 105 because of billboard rules, an album below #100 on chart for 2 years or more is placed on the catalog chart, ATYCLB will drop from the Billboard 200 because it probably won't be in the top 100 in week 105 and then be placed on the catalog chart. It would be great though if the album could hang on in the Billboard 200 until then.

If everyone here at Interference went out and bought a copy of ATYCLB for a friend in the same week, that would be enough to see it bounce a few positions upwards.

That definitely would NOT work. If you remember, the sales figures that Billboard uses and such are based on what the STORES purchase. When it statest All That You Can't Leave Behind sells 6,000 copies in a week, it means that all of those were shipped to stores. Sure, if everyone here bought a copy for a friend, some stores would restock, but considering that a lot of big record stores that I've been too have a ton of ATYCLB, and places like Wal-Mart just get what the truck brings, it wouldn't really be enough to help it move up on the charts very much or even at all.

Sorry but that is incorrect! Billboard uses a point of sale system called SOUNDSCAN. The sells figures you see are actual sales, purchases by consumers, NOT shipment figures. Billboard has had this system since June 1991. The UK and several other European countries also have charts based on point of sale. So when that retail clerk scans the barcode on that album you might buy this week, it get counted for the Billboard chart! So what I said does work! Of course I was really joking about actually doing it, but it is possible if enough people were willing to do it.

The RIAA uses shipment figures to certify albums as platinum or double platinum. These shipment figures are not used to make billboards charts though. They do note when an album recieves another RIAA certification, but the chart is based on actual sales to consumers tracked by SOUNDSCAN. SOUNDSCAN tracks over 95% of all music sold to consumers in the United States.

Thanks for clearing that matter up. Man, so two million people actually bought that one N*SYNC record within the first week of its release. Surprising info indeed.
