No, I don´t think so. It´s just that he doesn´t like the new album.

the problem is i do 'like' it, but i dont 'love:heart:' it. by U2's high standards i do feel disapointed. mainly due to the lack of stand out hit songs on it.
a DJ on radio 1's chris moyles breakfast show, said that he felt magnificent was an "album track" i cant help but feel the same way. having listened to the ATYCLB/HTDAAB singles (all classics), Mag' doesnt come close.

admittidly i am a pessimist, but i dont want NLOTH to fail.

You think HTDAAB's singles were classics? To me three of the four singles were the worst songs on the album and all worse than NLOTH's worst tracks. The variety of opinions on this site is interesting

I do love both ATYCLB and HTDAAB, they rank very high on my U2 favourite album list. So, I wasn´t expecting the boys could possibly top them but they did it once again in my opinion. NLOTH is currently 3rd in my personal list, right below JT and AB. It´s too early to know if it will considered U2´s third masterpiece tough. We still need to hear the songs live and then a couple of years to see how good (or bad) the album ages.

i think every song on HTDAAB is pute gold. ABOY not a classic, but was catchy and just as rock&roll (infact more so than) any of what the younger (pop/indie) bands.
Miracle Drug should have been second single i thought.

i suppose your top songs survey (well done on that btw!) will show what U2 fans think. but it seems the wider public havent been particularly kind to NLOTH singles.

If they had made this album in 2 years i would have been chuffed with it, but 4 years + is disapointing. i wounder if (i wouldnt say lack of) but less success than usual will make the band change their mind on releaseing what will effectively be the NLOTH B-sides' songs of ascent album. again if it sells a few million and has 1 hit single like zooropa then brilliant, but this material wasnt strong enough to make NLOTH then does it really stand a chance apart from the million or so U2 faithful.

incidently i think Mercy and Smile were better than most of NLOTH
for me if NLOTH had 2 more catchy tracks i would rate it much more highly because as a whole its a strong album but there is something lacking.

Well, I´m under the impression that this album has been well received in general by the hardcore fans. There were quite a few of them that accused the band of playing it safe with ATYCLB and HTDAAB. Clearly, NLOTH is a departure. As you put it, there are no enough catchy songs in it. On the other hand, they´ve come up with their best song since One: Moment of surrender. And I don´t have a problem with this :hyper:

I dont give the term "classic U2 song" out as easily as some. In my opinion, the following are classic U2 songs (recent albums only)

ATYCLB-Beautiful Day, Walk on (Stuck and Elevation are Great songs)
HTDAAB-Vertigo (Miracle Drug, Love and Peace & COBL are great songs and STYCMIOYO is not good, Im sorry but I dont like it:down:)
NLOTH- Magnificent, Breathe (Moment of Surrender and Crazy Tonight are great songs)

I know a lot of people will disagree with me but thats what I think. As much as I feel Magnificent is the best U2 song since Beautiful Day/Walk On/One, I think Im starting to feel Breathe is just as good.

seems a bit low, but the last 75% always adds a bit more, so hopefully still over 20k

As showed 69.42% and now upto 17,148

edit 17.148 is actually the final number apparantley :S, it stayed on 69.42% with 17,148 then jumped to final

HITS Final now in: Down to number 24 with 17,148 sales, down 11% on last week, so some levelling off on the percentage drops at least.

Still doing a lot better than in the UK. Still hanging in there and enough of a presence still to benefit from a potential 'Magnificent' boost.

Personally i am still hoping for top 40 in the UK during week 9, they do really need to do some serious promotion with magnificent though, it is crying out for it, as its already starting to do VERY well on the club charts with its remixes!

Whats frustrating is that U2 has a GREAT song that they released to radio last month (officially May 4th) and have yet to do any promotion. I know that it is important to avoid overkill but this song is too good to just let grow on its own. Get the video and the edit out already! I dont know, its just that a little promotion could bump the album 10-20 spots in the US or UK.
