The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

Not a bad drop in the UK - post Christmas it was to be expected. Were there many major retailers slashing the price for U218 in the sales?

No, they do that for older albums. So it has indeed done quite well to stay in the top 10. I think it would've sold about 50k @ # 9.

Btw, its ended up as the 19th best selling artist album of 2006 in UK with about 620k sold. So definitely a 5* result (imo).

620k is impressive, & surely the release of WITS is going to give those figures a bump, is 1mill. possible?

Eventually maybe (i'd be surprised if it sells more than a further 200k this year).

Where does U218's 620k fit into U2's album sales? I assume it is near the bottom of the list (above Boy, October, BO90-00?)

Portugal #7 (#6)
Switzerland #5 (#5)

In Italy the album was in the end of year chart with 250k (as of 15th Dec), but this obviously is SHIPPED copies.

Curious where the figure for UK came from, I am on the UKMix forums too but no mention of sales there.... All good though, that final Sunday before Xmas would have helped heaps.
Not sure what the album sold at #3 in Australia, but the chart here is for sales from Sat-Fri, so sales for Sat and Sun before Xmas would have gone towards the total. I'd say about 20k.

Italy : stays @ 5 (run : 4-4-5-5-5-5)
Holland : stays @ 5 (run : 3-5-6-6-5-5)
Norway : up 3 to 5

I do hope the album can reach the #1 position eventually. If it doesn't, it'll be the first U2 album since The Joshua Tree that doesn't reach the #1 position. And yes, U2's streak of 9 consecutive #1 albums is the longest ever in the Dutch charts.

Shaping up to be a good week :

US : up 1 to 32 with 42,356 (total = 500,691)
New Zealand : down 1 to 2 (run : 1-1-2-1-1-2)
Portugal : stays @ 7 (was @ 6 2 wks ago)
Finland : up 7 to 10

I expect MediaTraffic to give ~200k tomarrow

Canada : up 1 to 10 (& would've sold ~9k so 6 wk total = just about exactly 100k)
Spain : up 2 to 8

Billboard Week 6

Billboard has updated most of their charts for the week, which is the January 13 edition, and here are U2's results...

For U218:
Top 200 Album Chart - up 1 spot to 32
Top 25 Downloaded Albums - up 5 spots to 15
Top 20 Rock Albums - down 3 to 10
Top 100 Europe Albums - up 1 to 2

WITS:
Modern Rock Top 40 - down 2 spots to 35
Adult Top 40 - up 1 spot to 28

Saints:
Hot 100 - up 6 to 74
Pop 100 - steady at 72
Top 10 Canadian Downloads - down 5 to 10
Top 100 Europe Singles - down 5 to 39

Top 40 Music DVD sales:
U218 down 1 to 23
Zoo TV re-enters at 38

On mediabase, ironically, Saints is gaining airplay and has been picked up by 7 new stations just this week on the Alternative Rock format, where WITS has stalled. WITS is gaining steam again, though, on Adult Top 40, Triple A, and even Mainstream Rock. It's available as an import CD here in the U.S. on January 8, but I'm not sure about downloads. If it is made available for download, it probably has enough airplay to chart in the Top 50 on the Hot 100, with mucho potential from there. If not, well, I don't think it will do much except on a few select formats. It did debut at #67 on the Top 100 "Hits Online" chart, which tracks how many times a song is streamed on the Internet. We'll wait and see what happens!

The following countries have now been updated on Billboard...some of this may be redundant, but this is for the Jan 13 issue unless otherwise noted:

U218:
Greece - up from 2 to 1
Denmark - up from 11 to 3
Belgium - steady at 5
Austria - down from 3 to 4
Australia - steady at 3
Argentina - up from 8 to 6 (still showing the Jan 6 edition)
Ireland - steady at 3
Italy - steady at 5
Mexico - down from 5 to 8 (still showing Dec 30 edition)
Netherlands - steady at 5
Norway - up from 8 to 5
Portugal - steady at 7
Switzerland - steady at 5

Saints:
Denmark - up from 4 to 2
Italy - down from 3 to 4
Spain - Saints steady at 3 (still showing December 30 issue)

These charts, labeled as being "Soundscan data", can be found for Billboard subscribers under the "International Hits of the World" section, and it only shows either the Top 5 or Top 10 albums for each of the following countries (about half of them have a 2nd Top 5 or 10 for singles):

While the U.S. charts are updated on Thursdays, these country charts don't usualy get updated until several days later. Tonight, however, most country charts are now current.

well it's safe to say Saints was a worldwide hit for the band...the power of a collab

#8 in Spain with 80,000 copies sold (PLATINUM).

2-5-9-11-10-8

Saints #5 after 9 weeks (5 weeks at #1).

1-1-1-1-1-3-3-4-5

U218 VIDEOS, #14 (#10), after 6 weeks.

2-6-11-13-10-14

Vox

France : down 1 to 2 on Compilation chart with 11,557 but would've just gone back up into top 5 (presumably # 4) on normal chart above Beatles (# 5 with 11,494)...

So total French sales after 1st 6 wks = 158,041...

wk 1 : # 1 with 21,462
wk 2 : # 1 with 21,135
wk 3 : # 1 with 25,171
wk 4 : # 1 with 33,812
wk 5 : # 1 with 44,904
wk 6 : # 2 with 11,557

Btw, thx MJDangerous @ UKMIX for the figures.
