I think that the CBS show will help U2's back catalog as well as give the Bomb a small boost. OOTS, however, is going to be the albums biggest chance for a sustained run on Billboard. Grammy nominations, and then awards, usually provide a 1 to 3 week spike.

As for OOTS, I'm going to create a post for the song so we can watch it's progress on the variety of U.S. radio formats and then (hopefully) Billboard's charts.

To answer your question, yes, the video and airplay for OOTS will help the Bomb.

Well, i certainly never expected sales as high as 9K+ (on BB)...what a lovely surprise !!

Thanks for the figures SOLDATTI. I only hope that the BOMB can hang on in the comming weeks. Its likely though it will fall off next week, unless there is a sustained increase in sales because people want it for Christmas or are going to give it for Christmas. I don't know when Grammy nominations will be announced, but that should have an effect as well.

I always had this feeling that Bomb was hovering just outside the Top 200. When it plummeted from #150 to out of the Top 200 all together, I knew that while the chart position drop was huge, I had a feeling the actual change in sales wasn't. In the 150-200 range, a decrease of 500 copies at that time of year could be tremendous.

Now that the holidays are here, one can see Bomb's rather dramatic increase on the charts. It's not back in the Top 100, as was ATYCLB at this time in its run, but if Bomb can survive a "second Christmas" - as Bono calls it - then that could be a big enough boost to finally push sales over 3M in the U.S.

I'm still stunned that the Green Day album, "American Idiot", is charting so well! What hits have been released lately? And didn't we hear this album before - back when it was called "Dookie". My coworker, who is far younger than I am (in his mid-20's), claims this is why Green Day is successful. They release albums that all sound the same, but it's only once every 10 years that the sound is considered "in". That's why they had huge success with "Dookie" and now, a decade later they are successful again. He predicts another big Green Day album in 2014/2015. LOL!

Billboard's Comprehensive Top 200 Albums is based on sales, with no two-year time limit for Albums. It's the most accurate overall Album Chart, and while HTDAAB made BB's Top 200, it did not make the Comprehensive chart.

Best of 1980-90 rises from 158 to 89 on the BB Comp Top 200

The Eurocharts are not updated yet. No surprise that OOTS has not showed up on any BB charts yet. I hope the Bomb can hang on a few more weeks to ensure a sustained run, and OOTS may be helping that already, in addition to awards/tour/interviews.

Probably closer to 21,750 as these 2 albums are #76 and #77 on the Album 100 chart (and with TBO1980-1990 being #13 on the Pop Catalog chart it probably means it's right below Rarities 1971-03):

Wake Me Up When September Ends has been a massive hit the last few months, at least in the U.S. It peaked at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100, so it helped continue driving the sales of the album.

And while Green Day does have a certain sameness on each album, American Idiot is much different lyrically than Dookie.
