Week 38

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

UK - not so good : City drops off but let's not forget that 9 weeks in the top 75 (top 60 in fact) is unprecedented for a 3rd single off a U2 album. Bomb just stays in :

Bomb : # 73 (# 66) - total estimated UK sales now = 1,178,000

looks like its out of the top 75 next week then, but nearly 1.2M is great.

hopefully OOTS will be out soon and start getting some airplay, to get bomb back up the charts.

Hello,

In the Netherlands the album drops out of the top 10 again. Still, with a #11 position after 38 weeks, the album is still doing excellent.
Here's the full chart run of How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb (27-11-2004)
1-1-2-3-4-4-5-6-7-8
6-1-1-3-6-4-8-10-11-14
17-17-24-28-23-30-32-38-34-28
16-14-9-5-4-6-8-11

The COBL single is also still charting. In its 9th week it drops a spot to #31 in the Mega Top 50. Here's its full chart run.
City Of Blinding Lights (25-6-2005):
2-3-5-8-11-16-21-30-31

I don't follow the Top 40 chart that much (as it's based a bit too much on airplay to my liking), but there the song drops from #9 to #15. I have no chart run for this chart.

That was last week. Still waiting for the new one....

Yep, still good figures from Hit List - let's hope Bomb can soon get to 9xPlatinum (9M) on their chart :

44,000 (w.32) + 51,600 (w.33) + 59,500 (w.34) + 62,500 (w.35) + 57,100 (w.36) + 66,400 (w.37) + 64,300 (w.38) = 8,361,400 (total absolute minimum that should have been sold whilst on Hit List chart)

I think that's a good result. It's a conformation that last weeks result must have a reason and that it was not only a push for one week. I hope that it can do as good over the next weeks.

yeah i guess that's pretty good despite the 1 % drop :)

thx 4 the figures Soldatti

That 1% drop was a mere 77 copies!!! In other words, the drop is negligible.

While it's nice the album held, I wish it was holding a little higher on the chart than in the 150-170 region. But at least it's still in the Top 200. It looked like it was going to fall out after Week 36, which would have made it's time in the Top 200 not that much longer than that of "Pop" - despite the difference in total sales.

Hopefully the return of the tour coupled with a hit song that TRULY is a HIT song this time (hint to U2's marketing team!), will push the album back up the charts.

U2's Back Catalogue in this weeks UK top 200 / 250 chart :

Albums :
BO 80-90 : # 130 (# 104)
BO 90-00 : # 162 (# 139)

Singles :
COBL : # 88 (# 56)
Vertigo : # 125 (# 113)
Sometimes : # 178 (# 159)

ps - does anyone know U2's positions on Italian charts for last week & this week? thx in advance

World Chart

Bomb has a sales increase and rises one spot (with 2 new entries ahead of it) to 28 this week at mediatraffic.

With the European leg of the tour now over sales of Bomb really need to increase in Canada & the US for it to remain on the world chart over the next couple of months.

City - falls to 25 (21)

Mike

That's really good.

Yeah, fantastic result from mediatraffic...# 28 is now the Bomb's highest position for 13 weeks!!!!
:)
Overall artist album sales at mediatraffic were the lowest for 20 weeks so i guess the increase for Bomb, from last week, was small...let's say 1,000. So i estimate sales of 41,000 this week at mediatraffic. Bomb's overall sales at mediatraffic are now either v.close to or just over 8.1 million, which i think is excellent :

7,802,000 + 37,000 (w.33) + 38,000 (w.34) + 44,000 (w.35) + 42,000 (w.36) + 41,000 (w.37) + 40,000 (w.38) + 41,000 (w.39) = 8,085,000

I think that it will be very difficult to hold this position next week. The bomb will fall in some european countries and it's not sure how the sales will be in the US.

great result this week, i think maybe it will drop a place or 2 next week though. hopefully the tour will help US sales for the next few months, but Europe needs the next single now the tours gone to get bomb back up the charts.

Odds and ends...

As Soldatti said, HTDAAB re-enters the Top 25 Internet Albums Sales chart on BB:

TW LW 2W Weeks on chart Artist Album
14 - - 27 U2, How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb 3 Interscope

Best of 1980-90 drops from 28 to 40 on Pop Catalog Top 50

BB's Eurochart for the Top 100 albums in Europe has been updated:

HTDAAB slips from 13 to 21
B/O 1980-90 slips to 83
B/O 1990-00 slips to 100

As for the Eurochart Top 100 singles, COBL drops from 45 to 98

COBL does not show up on BB. In terms of radio play, it continues to bounce around in the Top 10 on Triple A, now in it's 4th attempt to climb up with a rise from 9 to 6 from yesterday to today.

COBL is still listed in the "taking off" chart for Hot AC, but it has a long way to go to crack the Top 20. Sometimes is the #1 recurrent airplay on Triple A per Radio and Records, which would put it at #23 on the Triple A Top 40

Triple A Most Played Recurrents
Artist Title (Label) Plays
U2 Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own (Interscope) 153

COBL will not break through to mainstream radio. It's time for another single in the U.S. before the tour starts, which I guess won't happen. COBL might get a bump on a few radio formats from the tour, but they really need something new.
