i don't understand this list. 7 weeks ago, U2's number was also 3,295,000....? Does this mean U2 sold 0 copies of their latest album? Or at least less than 1,000 (since these numbers go per 1,000)...hard to believe.

He's refusing to add sales that aren't on mediatraffic's list

A good estimate would be about 200,000 more sales in those 7 weeks. Sales are slowing fast though

Although the sales drops have been rather small, I am still saddened to see NLOTH drop in the U.S. With the tour doing so well, one would think the album would hold a bit more steady. Perhaps the YouTube webcast combined with nearly 100,000 people seeing U2 perform on Sunday will give the album a boost in the next week or two.

I do hope U2 release a single someone soon - in time to give the album a boost for the holidays. An early to mid-November single may be enough to carry the album through the end of the year. After that, I think it's done - at least in the U.S. The tour returning to Europe will give the album a boost there, but from my experience in watching the charts, tours don't necessarily help raise an album in the U.S.

I can only add sales that are listed in mediatraffic's top 40 because those are the only sales figures that are posted. U2's NLOTH dropped out of the top 40 several weeks ago which is why its sales level has not increased. Obviously it has, but I don't have a posted weekly figure to add to the total since it is no longer in the top 40.

Mediatraffic still keeps track of it though, and it will show up on the year end list.

Also, someone may already have access to the updated list including sales for albums that have dropped out of the top 40. The following list is posted on UKMIX FORUM and might be the full updated mediatraffic list including the sales for albums out of the top 40. So the following list, although I can't confirm it, may be the full updated version of what I posted:

1. Lady Gaga The Fame 3.811.000
2. U2 No Line On The Horizon 3.463.000

Moment of Surrender

Although the sales drops have been rather small, I am still saddened to see NLOTH drop in the U.S. With the tour doing so well, one would think the album would hold a bit more steady. Perhaps the YouTube webcast combined with nearly 100,000 people seeing U2 perform on Sunday will give the album a boost in the next week or two.

After that, I think it's done - at least in the U.S. The tour returning to Europe will give the album a boost there, but from my experience in watching the charts, tours don't necessarily help raise an album in the U.S.

FYI, I have not posted this in the Singles Watch thread yet, but as of today, MOS is up to 9 monitored stations (out of 30) for Adult Rock, and it rises from 78 to 64 in it's 3rd week on the chart. Not sure if there was ever a radio edit released...or if this is just 9 major market radio stations deciding to default to MOS as the 4th single. With the DVD being made at the Rose Bowl, perhaps a video of MOS live would be a very easy way to give a little promo to the song and radio might pick it up...who knows.

In looking at the Top-20 playlists for Adult Rock, Crazy is still in heavy rotation (still in the Top 10, overall, too), and even Magnificent and Boots have surged a bit. Probably due to the tour, but one of the biggest stations in Nashville has Boots (#2), Magnificent, Crazy, and MOS in their Top 20. There are still a few stations out there that appreciate real music!

That's amazing, the record industry is in dire straits and in context U2 did pretty well considering!

^if you look at the chart above, touring with the Black Eyed Peas was actually a pretty solid decision on U2's part. The have the big impressive stage, the U2 brand name, and the impressive back catalog to draw from. Then you have the BEP with the somewhat younger fanbase, who will also get to see a u2 show and hopefully be somewhat turned on (unless they are complete idiots)

Two of the biggest selling acts in the world both on the world album charts and the USA album charts. Its a win win for McG$.

Except the Black Eyed Peas only opened 6 of the shows. How many tickets U2 sells is not significantly impacted by who is opening for them.

Oh i realize that, i wasn't trying to say otherwise. Im just pointing out that you have the two biggest selling acts in the world on the same stage, thats pretty cool. Everyone knows that U2 is the main draw here, and BEP were only an opening act and its doubtful they impacted ticket sales for u2 by being the opener. I guess i should have put a :sexywink: after McG$ in my original post.
