Until it wins the best album at the grammies next Feb.

I don´t think the album is finished in Ireland or anywhere. But I think it´s even more unlikely it is going to repeat the success of its two predecessors at the grammies next year. Hope I´m wrong though.

in regards to the grammys, i have a funny feeling you may be right. although I would be surprised if it were not to recieve album of the year nomination, and maybe a few smaller wins in the rock categories.

album of the year nomination predictions?

Yeah, I totally agree. Most definitely it will get album of the year nomination and will walk away with a couple awards but not the big ones, i.e. album of the year, record of the year and song of the year.

maybe if MOS is 4th single and can gain some airplay (unlikely) could be nomination of song of the year (songwriters)

i would say it probably would as it is off the album and the album was released earlier in the year. im sure others on here would know more than me though.

Down another position this week

When I look at that list of top sellers in the U.K., acts outside of the U.K. aren't dominating. Sure, KOL is selling big - something about this current album has caught people's attention on both sides of the Atlantic and good for them. I hope they can enjoy this success again (or more) on a future album. And we have to remove MJ from true consideration as that is a special, and sad, circumstance. But Eminem - one who would sell millions everywhere - has abou 1.2M sold in the U.S. and only 8K more than U2 in the U.K. Green Day, despite their huge success of their last album, is struggling in both the U.S. and the U.K.

In other words, other big sellers are also having issues in the U.K. (and U.S.) - it's not just U2. I feel for recording artists. In the past KOL's success most likely would have been doubled everywhere (if not more). Now, they have to settle for 2M in the U.S. or maybe 5M worldwide. In 1999 or 2000, N'Sync set a record selling 1.8-1.9M copies of their new album in just ONE WEEK in the U.S. Now, it seems the top selling album of the YEAR will be around that level. I'd hate to be a recording artist now. No wonder U2 is doing this extravagant tour. First, they are one of maybe three artists who could sell out stadiums around the world (MJ may have been loved in many parts of the world, but not in the U.S.) and clearly touring is where the money is these days.

Added chart positions and last week's sales to the figures too. NLOTH will drop 1-2 positions next week I'd say

The UK album sales to date are really low. even the christmas period where weekly sales will be more than twice the average for maybe 4 weeks wont affect the year end chart by that much. on the brightside, U2 have outsold eminem, greenday & kelly clarkson, something they didnt do back in 2004-2005. I still think HTDAAB was a more sucessful album however; there was a real buzz about it around the tim eof release, something NLOTH never saw.

I cant beleive how radio1 havent played crazy much, coldplays new single (their 4th or 5th) from VLV is gettin huge airplay, and they even had 1 hour of uninterupted live coldplay gig the other morning!

Anyone have any idea of Muse's first week UK sales, theyre pretty big, would expect sales to be in line with NLOTH first week sales.

U2 still have the biggest selling album figures for week 1 sales here in the UK for the whole of 2009 pretty impressive at 158,000 thats 50,000 more than its closest rival!

There were heavy reports that Arctic Monkeys would overtake U2 for first weeks sales but failed by a long way. Will be interesting to see how many Muse sell though

its fantastic that U2 can still outsell Muse on week 1 sales in there own back yard very impressive indeed!

Long term sales are more important than first week sales. First week sales are generally fanbase sales while after that you'd begin to see a how popular it is with the general public. Personally I hope it outsells u2, not because it's a better album but because Muse deserve success and just because u2 struggled a little doesn't mean Muse shouldn't do well

what are we in the us now? 995,000 about?

no, 997,255
this week u2 will pass the milion!

This is the cart run till last week:
U.S. SoundScan Sales Run:
484,472* + 132,494 + 76,317 + 51,179 + 35,989 + 34,764 + 20,545 + 17,457 + 14,075 + 14,977 (Week 10) + 10,573 + 9,451 + 8,422 + 7,457 + 7,720 + 8,552 + 4,956 + 4,339 + 4,916 + 5,819 (Week 20) + 5,576 + 5,496 + 5,122 + 5,342 + 5,410 + 5,103 + 4,872 + 5,833
Total: 997,255
*Includes 547 copies due to "early street sales".

i think this week with 2 concerts in Boston 2 in Ny and on 26 september the SNL performance will give a good boost.

They really should be selling NLOTH at the shows, for those who aren't familiar but might be converted.

Also they should be selling Passengers for those scratching their head with YBR.

Uprising: 39

Crazy Tonight: 15
Magnificent: 9
Boots: 4

U2 have got a lot of airplay with the album in the UK, Muse barely made top 40 with their lead single

Tell that to the numerous persons who have been complaining about the lack of U2 airplay in the UK. And a similar situation is verified in the US.
On the contrary, the two latest (mediocre) singles from Coldplay have enjoyed extensive airplay.
