Week 26

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

Mediatraffic # 30 but sales remain the same at 33,000 for the week. Total sales are now at 3,266,000. Here is a comparison for the non-chart followers:

Lady Gaga-3,314,000 (#1 album released in 2009)
U2-3,266,000 (#2 album released 2009)
Eminem- 2,573,000 (#3 album released in 2009
Greenday-2,135,000
Black Eyed Peas-2,047,000 (they are still selling 120k a week but given that they have had 2 WW SMASH hits, not really that great at all)
The Boss-1,315,000
Dave Matthews-759,000

Note that both The Boss and Dave Matthews have been out of the top 40 and thus not accumulating sales for a few months, so add on about 200k to the Boss and 50k to Dave.

On the "other" worldwide album chart, NLOTH is at #21 (18) with sales of 42,000. It's updated a little early this week...as this is week #26 for the album on this chart as well.

it amazes me how much these 2 charts differ, mediatraffic has thriller at #2 , 122,000
the 'other' chart has it at #10, 69,000! , the other chart has sales of most albums 10,000 extra to what mediatraffic has. even if MT doesnt cover 7.5% of sales, still a big difference.

U2 in todays UK mids at number 28, so looking at staying in the top 30 again this week, fantastic news IMHO

Bathiu: Didn't you say in the Week 25 thread that there were chart revisions? Therefore, shouldn't Week 25 have shown position #6 instead of #7 for NLOTH? And shouldn't it have been #15 instead of #16 for "U218"?

Also, any chance for a revision this week too? Could there be yet another week of Top 10 for NLOTH?

In the Netherlands the album fell out of the top 20: on 22 (15) although the album is well promoted on Dutch tv. After all the album is doing very well here.:applaud::applaud:

In Belguim (Flanders) the album rose from 22 to 18 and in Wallonia the album went from 16 to 17.

UK NLOTH #28, 18singles #38.

5 new entries in top 20, so not too bad at all

though i think next week will be a big drop

NLOTH is one of only 43 albums including new releases that actually decreased in sales over the last week in the top 75

I don't think so,
http://olis.onyx.pl/
as you can see, places from 2 to 5 are "Rozni Wykonawcy"=Various Artists compilations, they are always selling good over here.
In fact, just my personal opinion, the whole chart is a mess for quite a few weeks now, notice that other than all those compilations and MJ albums you won't find many "big" names there.
For example, NLOTH is at #11, but it's at #2 when you'll take "foreign", international acts only.

I agree it will probably be a big drop - unless they get some big media exposure -the Blackberry advert and album TV ad haven't made much of an impact unfortunately. On a brighter note the new album from the Artic Monkeys was was in some quarters expected to beat U2s first week sales - in the end less than 100k so some way behind 158k !

Mike

Yes U2 still have the biggest seling first weeks sales of any album this year by quite some margin. Arctic Monkeys were expected at the start of the week to get extremely close but guess what they were over 60,000 short!

Proves that 158,000 was a formidable total!

On Billboard's Eurochart Top 100 Albums (Sept 5 edition), NLOTH slips from 8 to 12. Still a strong showing.
