At present in the UK midweeks, the album is 183
The freefall isn't stopping, the album will be nowhere by the time the tour gets to the UK...

But when the tour does come around it will help, U2 will be back in the public eye in the UK, TV stations will cover the shows, newspapers will cover the shows, the band have been out of the public eye in the UK for a few weeks now, and it really doesnt take much for an album to move back up the charts.

No U2 album has ever fallen this low before a tour before, there's no guarantee it will go back up enough to make the top 75. Most albums don't fall out of the top 200 this quickly even without promotion...

yes the fall is really bad. however the tour should easily make it top 20. and will probably coincide with the release of 'crazy'.

Really? Top 20 in the UK come August? that's pretty optimistic from 183...and given Magnificent's less than magnificent performance last month, I doubt a third single will do much better with nothing to really entice any hc fans... I mean; 2, 3 remixes again? touring is where it's at for U2 these days... singles are just going through the motions, obliging the contract I guess... :sexywink:

btw... don't look.... US Billboard 200, horrid!
we 04/07/09 - 63
we 11/07/09 - 95

:shifty:

Magnificent put the album back into the top 40 if i remember correctly?, of course there is no gurantee, but the amount of people attending the shows there will be a large % who havent bought the album yet i would imagine, and after hearing the songs/experincing the claw they may just think hmmm i'll buy the new album after all, also the people who see it on the TV etc it will help.

what is the combined estimated attandance for all of the UK shows
wembley 90,000 x 2. cardiff 80,000, glasgow, 75,000, sheffield 60,000. total about 400,000 if even 2.5% of these buys NLOTH thats 10,000 not to mention massively increased radio/music channel play + likely TV/radio appearances, word of mouth and the release of a new single. whats the average #1 album this time of year, 20-30,000 maybe?

Well, when there are several Michael Jackson albums suddenly charting as well as 10 new chart entries besides Michael Jackson, it is an unusually crowded week. Dropping off for a week or two is possible, but I think it will resurface once the traffic clears.

Hopefully Crazy becomes a decent hit and the tour manages to improve sales accross Europe first and then America. Otherwise I reckon Lady Gaga will dethrone U2 in late August/early September.

From Billboard. Down to 108 in US. No sales figures yet for this week.

Ouch. Hopefully the "Crazy" commercial will boost sales. I also notice the Magnificent is getting a good amount of "club" play and Crazy is moving up the AAA charts.

From Mediabase...

Crazy Tonight

AAA
Up from #30 to #16
220 plays (+102)

The song could possible be another #1 Adult Rock song for U2, it's screaming up the chart. No sign of it on other formats yet, however.

NLOTH has come back into the top 100 itunes albums at #96 after falling out, and is up to #16 on rock albums after being down at #20 yesterday. So perhaps the ad is helping it hang in while other albums slip.
