The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Still in the top 20 in Ireland, eh? They always have such a devoted following there.........I wonder why.....

US is lacking. Strong here in Albuquerque. Will they make another appearance in the top 50?

Japan is lacking as well, but that's just part of their culture..................a movie can be number one there in its first week and then be twentieth the next..........they just get bored with things quickly.

Japan isn't lacking: HTDAAB is U2's most successful album ever in Japan

Only US chart run is under-par...in the rest of the world HTDAAB is doing very well (in Germany and UK for example is performing much better than ATYCLB)

I find it fascinating how U2 struggle (by our standards) to sell albums in Japan, but they can go there and sell out stadium gigs. Are the Japanese more inclined to attend live music than buy albums ...?

HTDAAB will come back up when a tours announced, and when they are touring (Australia, and IF they tour)

But Sometimes Down that low already?....whats the world coming to??

i think aus might be similar to the UK with regarg to singles, they will fall quicly, its what has always happend

and still number 27 here in the UK :) the album is doing superb here, and i belive ATYCLB was in the 60's this same week?

probably even worse than #60 and ATYCLB also dropped very quickly.
In the first 4 weeks i remember that its chart run was a disappointing 1-5-10-20

well its a totally different story with bomb, and nice to see sometimes still in the top 40 :) again very very rare for a single to remain at the top for very long, specially a U2 single

Italy: #15 (#9)

unfortunately HTDAAB dropped off the top 10 one week before ATYCLB did...i hope it won't follow the same path of ATYCLB that from week 18th started dropping and then it's never come back into the top 10

@Dima
Do you know how many albums were sold in Italy and if HTDAAB received any certifications? Have you any sales figures for the older U2-Albums in Italy?

Thanks a lot!

i'm sorry but i haven't got any figures, and honestly i don't know where to look for 'em: i know only what from time to time appears on national newspapers....for example i know that ATYCLB had sold more than 400k by the end of 2000 so i suppose that now as more than 4 years have passed the total figure could be 500k or even more.
Also from what i know in Italy sales in the first week of release can be really strong (like 150-200k+) and also during christmas week 100k-150k+ copies for the #1 album are not uncommon but the rest of the year sales are normally very poor and i think that in the weakest weeks of the year (like the post-christmas weeks till easter) an album(if it isn't in its 1st or 2nd week) can be at #1 selling as little as 15k copies.

As for average sales the biggest local artists (Vasco Rossi, Lucio Dalla, Eros Ramazzotti, Adriano Celentano, Zucchero and a few more) can sell up to 1-1.5 million copies but these are expecption and don't make the rule as normally 100k+ copies is considered a big success and even 50k copies is a very good result especially for a new artist as normally charts here are VERY conservative (people don't spend their money in new music and prefer rely on more known acts: U2 are among them :) )...as for internatonal acts U2 is the biggest here in terms of average sales per album but there could be artists that with a single album sell more than U2 (for example Anastacia's last album sold more than 1 million copies...probably more than every single album from U2 excluding maybe Joshua Tree)

Sting2, are you extrapolating the mediatraffic figures? Otherwise, the 7,140,1000 figure would become over 7,500,000!!!!!
