Hello,

Here is week 14 of the Dutch album charts with regard to the second volume of U2's Best Of. As usual, all data is provided by the Mega Top 50 (http://www.planet.nl/music/0,1235,79_1855,00.html).
This week The Best Of 1990-1990 drops even further. Last week it fell out of the Top 10, this week the album slides down from #17 to #23. It seems as if the period with high positions is over. Considering that the album spent 3 months in the Top 10, this is not that bad. I don't know the early chart positions of the first Best Of... so I cannot compare the two volumes. However, I think their performance will be very alike. There is a small asterisk to U2's position as the 2 versions are counted together.
Here is the chart run for The Best Of 1990-2000 (16-11-02):
1-1-3-4-4-6-7-6-7-6
6-9-17-23

There are no other U2 albums on the regular album chart. In the Back Catalog Top 50 The Best Of 1980-1990 wins one position as it rises to #43.
The 3rd chart run for The Best Of 1980-1990 on the Back Catalog Top 50 was (8-2-03):
6-44-43

There are no U2 singles on the singles chart (again a Top 50 since 1 January).

Robbie Williams has the #1 album with Escapology (it's 10th week at #1). Blue & Elton John remain #1 on the singles chart with a remake of Elton's Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word.

C ya!

Marty

It's been a dry week, haven't got/found any Soundscan charts.

For those who are wondering where is doctorwho, I got an email, that he has moved. (again)

Doctorwho's new home is ...u2page..., where he will present all charts and sales information. There were no information, yet, when I visited there.

Here is Dr. Who info posted on U2page for this week.

Week 14/15 of the 90's "Best Of"

Week 14/15

The 90's "Best Of + B-sides" fell out of the Top 200, after charting there for 12 weeks. However, keep in mind that this was the ?special edition? version. The 80?s ?Best of + B-sides? also lasted a very short time in the Top 200. I do not have the actual sales numbers for every week, so estimates will have to be made. This information is posted below. The 90?s ?Best Of? is still charting in the Top 200.

Below are chart & sales summaries for the 90's "Best Of + B-sides", "Best Of" and their combined efforts. Many countries have combined the sales of both versions, which ranks the album higher on the charts. However, in the U.S., the albums are listed separately (Canada does this as well). Therefore, I wanted to make a "combined" list to show where the album would have ranked on the charts had the sales of both versions been combined. This last item, IMO, is a better indicator of the overall success of the "Best Of".

90's "Best Of + B-sides":

Charts:
#3 - 27 - 49 - 62 - 80 - 91- 88 - 93 - 100 - 134
163 - 184 - out of Top 200

Sales:
184,804 + 59,694 + 31,512 + 36,916 + 26,344 + 33,292 + 44,681+ 33,055 + 13,613 + 7,469 + 6,017 + ~5,400+ ~4,000 + ~3,000 + ~3,000

Total Estimated Sales:
492,000

90's "Best Of":

Charts:
#34 - 57 - 49 - 58 - 56 - 58 - 64 - 88 - 94 - 115
117 - 154 - 171 - 166

Sales:
37,922 + 26,436 + 50,687 + 34,331 + 49,635 + 64,412 + 44,993 + 15,377 + 11,048 + 9,223 + 8,528 + 6,680 + 6,477 + 8,954

Total Sales:
374,703

Combined:

Charts (estimated, theoretical position if sales were combined):
#3 - 13 - 30 - 29 - 35 - 37 - 39 - 40 - 45 - 52
62 - 65 - 87 - 119 - 125

Sales (combined weekly sales of both albums):
184,804 + 97,616 + 57,948 + 87,603 + 60,675 + 82,927 + 109,093 + 78,048 + 28,990 + 18,517 + 15,240 + ~13,900+ ~10,700 + ~9,500 + ~12,000

Total Estimated Sales (for both albums):
867,500

As shown, the combined sales have approached 870,000 copies in the U.S.

The "B-Sides" version of the album has officially sold close to 500,000 copies in the U.S. Due to RIAA rules, this should certify it as Platinum. I estimated no drop for the "B-Sides" sales this week as sales seemed to improve across the entire Top 200. This may have been due to Valentine's Day/President's Day.

The single CD version should be certified as Gold. Note that sales increased for the single CD version this week (with a corresponding jump in the charts).

While both albums are selling less than the 80's "Best Of", this should not be of a surprise to anyone. The 90's single CD version is on a similar track to the 80's single CD (which never charted high).

In other chart news, the 80's "Best Of" continues to chart/sell well. It has been on the U.S. Catalog charts for 119 consecutive weeks (peaking at #2 approximately one year ago). The last three weeks, it charted at #78-95-100. It sold 3,028 copies last week and 3,634 copies this week.

ATYCLB also continues to chart in and out of the Catalog charts. It has spent a total of 14 weeks in the Top 200 (on the Catalog charts). The last three weeks, it charted #184 - out - 178. It sold 1,777 copies last week (when it was out of the charts) and 2,578 copies this week. During the recent holiday season, sales sky-rocketed to over 7,000 copies a week. Total sales for ATYCLB in the U.S. have surpassed the 4 million mark! It has not been re-certified as 4x Platinum by the RIAA, but do not let that fool you - actual consumer sales are close to 4.1 million copies (in the U.S.) and about 12 million worldwide. ATYCLB was indeed a huge hit for U2.

That's it for now!
