I keep on forgetting this, but does this # include softcopies as well (like ITUNES Album downloads) or is this # just hard copies (actual physical cd's sold)?

This includes ALL copies. Hard, soft, digital, record, CD, or any other format that it can be issued in.

The only bit I don´t like is the infamous Lady Gaga continues selling 100 K per week.
Looking at Eminem´s numbers I guess it´s official now: NLOTH is the best selling album of the first half of 2009.

OK, 20 years from now are most people going to be remembering Poker Face or Beautiful Day? :) She'll make a run, but I think by the EOY, U2 will still have it, the tour will help a bit.

I really hope Zago goes back to updating his album sales blog (what I used to get hte worldwide sales before) I'm curious where NLOTH is in the since 2006 chart now

Although one should remember that there is basically no comparison when it comes to unit sales when looking at album that was selling in 2006 compared to one selling in 2009. The market for top selling albums has been declining very rapidly each year.

Yeah I'm aware the chart is not in "real" terms but is interesting to see it.
