Huge numbers for the first 32 shows of the tour!

Music Charts, Most Popular Music, Music by Genre & Top Music Charts | Billboard.com

NYC 1 has had a date change, I don't know if and how that affected sales numbers.

well im sure it did, since that concert was supposed to take place on a friday. that probably meant some people had to give up their tickets, because they had to work or whatever, or some people might have had trouble in changing their travel plans if they were planning on flying to NYC or taking a road trip.

Yeah, so it would make even more sense that 9/24 was the one to take the attendance record.

Yeah, so it would make even more sense that 9/24 was the one to take the attendance record.

I was there and I can honestly say it looked insane! To see so many people just screaming and clapping even in the upper, upper decks. It was really cool and I am glad that I was a part of history. This show was just unreal or perhaps surreal is a better description. Their newer material from ATYCLB & Bomb get the crowd going just as much as their "older classics". I would argue that Beautiful Day, Elevation, Vertigo and City of Blinding Lights have all become live classics....its really cool.

On another note, I think we get hung up on the whole "sold out" or not "sold out" label. I want to see every show sell out (and so far they have) but take those two words away, and we still have HUGE numbers. I mean, these numbers are incredible. I know the business side of this tour is massive, grossing 240 million in less than 35 shows but just look at the attendance figures. They are drawing an average of 72k per show....72!! The Moggio's of the world can say all they want, this tour is proving that U2 is one of if not the biggest concert draws. The Stones still have the record but we are only 32 shows into this tour and they have grossed $240 million and played to an incredible 2.3 million people! They are smashing venue records in almost every city they visit. I just cant wait to see the end numbers....

I agree!

Of course, now that U2 hit the "big cities" - meaning U.S. cities that were almost guaranteed to sell-out as U2 is so popular in each - I expect to see a drop. I doubt U2 will continue to sell out each show in the U.S. But even if they "only" play to 50K, that is impressive.

What I like is that this time, U2 are hitting both the big and smaller markets together (for this leg of the tour). During PopMart, U2 hit the big U.S. markets first, then left for Europe, only to return to hit the small U.S. markets. As a result, U2 received lots of unfair criticism for not selling out every show despite being in cities that often don't have sell-outs of any type. By mixing big and small markets together, this will show the critics that U2 are in demand and can sell out a stadium, but some smaller markets simply don't sell, regardless of who is there (including local sports teams).

they say all the shows are sell outs in NYC and Boston but folks mentioned tickets for sale before show and empty seats was up with that? looks like UVA NCS will have about 50,000 at each show. Guess the average will go up with their math... LOL

WHo really cares about how much and how many..... Just play for 2 1/2 hours and give us a show we will never forget....

I assume they will play rio in 360 so they can say they had 3 million on beach in 2010....:shifty:

\Charlottesville is the first college town on the 360 tour, and U2 will be adjusting their set list to suit a college audience, Berry said, so we may be hearing a few songs that nobody else has heard so far on this tour.
No matter what they do or don’t include in the playlist, Charlottesville will be talking about this show for a while. Tickets are still on sale.

I was there too, I wholeheartedly agree.

If you look at videos from Charlottesville it was packed. It did a lot better than what I thought!

I don't think its been mentioned here yet, but the concert in Tampa is SOLDOUT! Not even single tickets are available on ticket master. Raymond James Stadium has a normal capacity for a football game of 66,000. With the field, there should be over 70,000 people in attendance for this show. I think Led Zeppelin holds the record at 78,000 for a show in Tampa back in the 1970s. Not sure if U2 will break that record, but with the show soldout, they could.

With Tampa soldout, this may help a little bit with Atlanta.

here are facts on UVA stadium

They are saying it drew apx 55,000 fans, so with field etc sell out would have been 68,000. not bad for a place in middle of nowhere.

yeah i noticed that about tampa that's awesome! I read an article about the raleigh show today and it said there will be between 65,000 to 70,000 in attendance. the capacity of carter finely stadium is 57,082.

Which could mean that it will technically be a sellout or for that matter legitimately a sellout (e.g. no tickets at all available).

Honestly-I am not trying to start anything! But given one of the most vocal opponents against this tour being a success was poster "X". I want to repost the predictions that poster "X" made for comparison purposes. I really dont know how these shows will end out, but I feel that poster "X" may have, just slightly :sexywink:, underestimated U2's draw:

Start Quote: "Poster "X" predictions for U2 360 in North America:

City/Venue/Capacity/Tickets Sold/Gross/Average Ticket Price

October

1 Charlottesville, VA - Scott Stadium (attendance: 31,000/ GROSS: $2 million/$65)
3 Raleigh - Carter Finley Stadium (attendance: 31,000/ GROSS: $2 million/$65)
12 Dallas - Cowboys Stadium (attendance: 28,000/ GROSS: $1.8 million/$65)
14 Houston - Reliant Stadium (attendance: 31,000/ GROSS:$2 million/$65)
19 Norman, OK (Oklahoma City area) - University Memorial Stadium (attendance: 31,000/ GROSS: $2 million/$65)

markets in which u2's grosses have remained basically stagnant since the 90s:

~ dallas
~ houston (the 2005 show doesn't count because there was no austin/san antonio show)

what the hell are they going to do if they want to hit these above listed markets? Or are they going to skip them? Because at the prices they're charging nowadays, they won't even be able to sell out arena shows (or just barely in some cities) in these areas.

They'd still struggle to sell 25,000 tix in any of the midwestern and southern us markets i mentioned in my previous post.

Can you say popmart? -End Quote

Well, so far, he´s got the first one (Charlottesville) all wrong. From what I have heard, attendance was nearly double what he predicted.

Backstreets.com: 2009 Setlists
Boss opens up his 5 night stand to close out his house... Plays over 3 hours. Not concerned about how many people at show but that they get what they came for ... just think what a 3 hour show of u2 could be like.....8-10 more songs each night!!!!!:shifty:

woah, when did i end up on the backstreets.com forums?

I think they drew more than the Rolling Stones. Looking at the Stones photos, there are about 10 sections where they didn't sell seating, plus the grass lawn in the back. U2 had maybe under 5 sections equivalent empty, and had people on the grass lawn.

I miss Moggio and his predictions.

Both Charlottesvile and Raleigh drew more than 55,000 people right?
If you ask me that´s much more impressive than breaking the record attendance in New Jersey.
I can´t wait to see what happens in Norman. I´m sure there will be at least as many people as in Charlottesville and Raleigh. Can anyone confirm whats the all time attendance record in Oklahoma for a rock gig? I heard it was set by the Rolling Stones back in 1997, some 60,000 people.

I am looking for boxscore results of the Vertigo Tour and the Elevation Tour. Does anyone know where to find them? Both total numbers as numbers per show (attendance, gross...). There must be similar lists as the one we get for the 360 Tour, but I have difficulties to find them in the interference archive.

Are there some statistics freaks here who can provide me with the data?

[/offtopic]

could also be nice to compare data from 360 with Elevation, Verrtigo, POP, ZooTV etc.

I don't remember the exact audience (it's in one of these threads somewhere) but I think the Rolling Stones audience was somewhere around 53000. Honestly, I don't think they're going to reach that level, because multiple tickets are available in every price range except for GA seats.

Thanks about the info on RS. It´s still several days to go for Norman. I´m positive the boys will manage to draw 55,000.

Look at the ticket price average. Sure wish it hadn't double in 12 years. Beleive that is more then inflation has risen and with economic crisis taking peoples homes it would be nice for someone to lower prices instead of raising them...

Ticket price is based on demand. The Stones sold their tickets based on market value in 1997, and U2 is doing the same in 2009. U2 is selling $30 dollar tickets which adjusted for inflation would only be $22.08 back in 1997, $19.21 back in 1992, $15.48 back in 1987, and $11.63 back in 1981.
