YEah 22 shows against 50 Jovi arena shows where avarage attandence is around 15.000....
Jovi played in 2010 mostly arena shows so it is a big difference!
Jovi are playing in Europe stadium next year!

And again there are not all show reported on billboard, there are misssing, around 6 shows and 11 must yet to come.....for jovi.
So boxscore isnt right for U2 and also for Jovi!

The boxscores are correct for U2's 22 shows in Europe for 2010 and they are correct for Bon Jovi's 69 shows as well. Bon Jovi's 69 shows are from their first show in Honolulu Feb 11th to Lima Peru sept 29th. Bon Jovi's shows from Santiago Chile October 1st 2010 and on will be counted for 2011's top tours. Just the same for U2. Their shows in Australia even though they are in 2010 will be counted on 2011's top tours as well.

OK i dont get it, why for 2011, they were in 2010 and it is not even a big difference between the dates, like only 2 days......silly!

this forum is to discuss u2's box office numbers. if you don't have anything to add to this thread other than why bon jovi's better, i suggest you stop posting in it as trolling is against the rules.

Well we can be very glad that Rock n roll still rules! When Lady Gaga and Black eyed peas will be at no. 1 then the end will come and rock n roll will die! Hope not. But i dont see any other younger rock act in future when U2, Jovi Springsteen, Ac/dc will retire :(, Maybe Kings of Leon or Muse or Gaslight Anthem or Nickelback but i doubt it!

I don't get it either, it should just be any concerts that lie between Jan 1st and Dec 31st. lol but they cut off things early so that way they can get their reports done before the end of the year. Since U2's 22 shows in Europe have been far over with Live Nation was able to report the numbers for those shows, but not the current Australia shows. Bon Jovi's promoter obviously just gave billboard their earnings up through their first 69 shows this year. Anyway Bon Jovi had a great run this year too!

I agree, it is just silly. They all need a new promoter ;)

In all honesty its not really the promoter, billboard needs the numbers in early enough so that way they can publish them in their magazine by the end of the year. for 2009 u2's last show was october 28th so live nation was able to get all of u2's shows reported for that year. so bon jovi's remaining 15 shows in 2010 will be figured into 2011's totals and u2's remaining 10 shows in australia in 2010 will be figured into 2011's totals.

Yes a tought so too about publishing in magazines and in their site....let it be..

Nice thing is we finally got the correct numbers so far..they are coming directly from the promoter to billboard. it would be nice to see the individual boxscores for u2's 22 shows in europe and the 6 shows that are missing for Bon Jovi, but i guess i cant complain at least we have the overall correct numbers in finally. the numbers given on the top tours 2010 list are just as valid as any boxscore number because they both come from the same source. I just would rather see individual boxscores for each city. oh well..lol

YEah finally we get all numbers correct or should i say billboard get all the numbers, but still they have one bad thing, we all now which....delays
Yes it will be intresting to see boxscores from city to city...
you can count them show by show...:). But for media the list is tooo long, too many numbers :)

Bon Jovi was at the New Meadowlands, dont forget.

Can we stop discussing /dissing Bon Jovi please? It's getting annoying. Or any other band for that matter.

thank you. :) the forum description says it's for the business side of u2, and that's all. if you want to discuss ticket sales for anyone else i'm sure there's other forums out there for such things, or you can try our general music forum. but not here.

Thanks for the data!!
Few things are remarkable:
-22 shows and... 22 sell-outs!!?? I did not expect else, but still...
-average attendance in 2010: 59672 (compared with 69802 in 2009)
-only based on these numbers, 360 already passed Vertigo Tour in total gross
-only Bigger Bang and Black Ice had higher grossings (from what I know, never saw data from Bridges to Babylon...)
-extrapolating these numbers to the rest of the tour (assuming all shows are known) could mean:
total attendance: 107*66,425=~7,1 million!
total gross: *101,08=~718 million $!

my post was directed at everyone and anyone. but please, continue to keep taking the thread off topic and posting sarcastic replies. stop, seriously.

I'm sorry, I didn't see your post until now. Wouldn't have posted it had I seen it! I have that instinctive reply-to-post without looking down :(

Well at least we got numbers to be honest. Hoping for individual results on next week's charts.

U2360 is now the third highest grossing tour ever - unofficially?

-only Bigger Bang and Black Ice had higher grossings (from what I know, never saw data from Bridges to Babylon...)

Correction.

AC/DC's Black Ice Tour only did $441 million in gross, while 360 has just passed the $443 million mark making it the 2nd highest grossing tour at this time. The wikipedia results for the Black Ice tour are incorrect.

on the top 25 tours of 2010 article it says.."artists are ranked by total gross earnings, according to billboard boxscore from Nov 22, 2009 through Nov 20, 2010" so if it is according to "billboard boxscore" then Live Nation must have finally reported each individual date, no?

Not necessarily. The Rolling Stones did not report any of their individual dates for the "Licks Tour" 2002-2003 and did not report any individual dates from the last leg of a Bigger Bang in 2007, but again the totals overall were reported.

Also, U2 has just set a new RECORD for a European tour:

360 TOTALS FOR EUROPE BOTH LEGS COMBINED:

TOTAL GROSS: $319,846,813 (RECORD)
TOTAL ATTENDANCE: 3,072,006 (RECORD)
Average Gross: $6,953,192
Average Attendance: 66,783
Average Ticket Price: $104.12
Shows: 46
Sellouts: 46

The Previous record that U2 broke for Europe was the following by the Rolling Stones:

The Rolling Stones
A Bigger Bang Tour Europe
TOTAL GROSS: $213,070,760
TOTAL ATTENDANCE: 1,965,779
Average Gross: $4,348,383
Average Attendance: 40,118
Average Ticket Price: $108.39
Shows: 49
Sellouts: 4

The Rolling Stones tour of Europe on A Bigger Bang consisted of a 1st leg of 19 shows in the summer of 2006 followed by a 2nd leg of 30 shows in the summer of 2007.

Europe now...all-time after 2011

Not necessarily. The Rolling Stones did not report any of their individual dates for the "Licks Tour" 2002-2003 and did not report any individual dates from the last leg of a Bigger Bang in 2007, but again the totals overall were reported.

WOW. It's not even close. So U2's 360 Tour is already the biggest tour in the history of Europe by about 1.5x, and there are more Euro dates coming, right? By this time next year, the 360 tour will be the highest grossing and attended tour in all of history, and it won't be close...

I honestly don't see another band or solo act ever being able to top this U2 tour...not even U2 themselves. They could get "ambitious" and go for the $1 Billion dollar thresh hold...

Small correction, the record that U2 broke was actually Madonna's. Also, AC/DC is probably around the $200 million mark for Europe as well:

Madonna

TOTAL ATTENDANCE: 2,048,979
Average Gross: $5,686,482
Average Attendance: 48,785
Average Ticket Price: $116.56

One more thing. Billboard has also released the top 25 individual boxscores for 2010 which should have included several U2 shows, but did not. This shows that Live Nation only released the overall totals and did not release any of the individual show results. Apparently they really want to hide the results for Moscow and Istanbul. Even though those shows were not close to selling out, I think both had well over 40,000 in attendance. I think they should release the individual results, but if it does not happen within the next month or so, it probably won't.

Its too bad they wont release them because I would have loved to see the official number in Paris (96k), Greece (80k+) and Rome (75k+) but I dont think it will happen. I think we can piece it together "unofficially" based on media reports/U2.com numbers.
