Thanks to the UKMix website...

Platinum = 100,000

War - Gold
UABRS - Gold
Joshua Tree - 3xplat (64wks on chart)
Rattle And Hum - Plat (32 wks)
Achtung Baby - Plat (46 wks)
Zooropa - Plat (38 wks)
Pop - Plat (32 wks)
80-90 - 4xplat (35wks)
Atyclb - 3xplat (31wks)
90-00 - Plat (31wks)
Bomb - 2xplat (42wks)

Joshua Tree, Rattle and Hum, Pop, 80-90, Atyclb, 90-00 and Bomb all hit number 1... zooropa reached number 2, and Achtung Baby number 6.

Interesting to see the relatively low sales for Rattle and Hum and Achtung Baby, unless the numbers required for platinum have been dropped in recent years, like they have in a lot of other countries.

Interesting to see JT at 3xPlat...when it re-entered a few months back it was only 1xPlat on the official Spanish chart. If this is 'cos there are 2 seperate editions (or something) then surely we can say it is 4xPlat.

Was there a specific thread at the UKMix website that discussed Spanish Sales?

Sometimes when albums are certified, they do not get a further certification for a long time despite increased sales. Multi-Platinum certification may have started after Achtung Baby came out, so Achtung Baby may simply be waiting for certification.

Yeah the thread is called "Book About Spanish Charts" and the U2 info is on page 6.

I've just asked on there if the amount required for platinum (100k) has always been the same. A lot of countries have downgraded in the past few years; eg Italy was 100k for platinum, now 80k.

According to Universal, earlier this year, U2 now have 35xPlat awards in Spain. So those certifications must be WAY out of date. Plus, 35xPlat would put them amongst the artists with the most Platinum certifications of all time. Also in Spain, Joshua Tree was the # 1 best selling album of 1987 & they've now had 7 # 1 albums, which is 3rd on the all time list :

Artists with the most #1 albums in Spain :

1. JOAN MANUEL SERRAT 17
2. JULIO IGLESIAS 16
3. U2 7
4. JOAQUIN SABINA 7
5. SANTANA 6
6. ALEJANDRO SANZ 6
7. MIKE OLDFIELD 6
8. DIRE STRAITS 5
9. CAMELA 5
10. LUIS MIGUEL 5
11. MECANO 5
12. THE BEATLES 5
13. MIGUEL BOSE 5
14. HEROES DEL SILENCIO 5
15. MADONNA 5

*Artists with the most album sales certifications in Spain (i've added U2) :

RANK --ARTIST --PLATINOS --GOLDS --SALES*
1 ALEJANDRO SANZ --74 --0 --7.400.000
2 JULIO IGLESIAS --61 --2 --6.200.000
3 LUIS MIGUEL --36 --2 --3.700.000
4 U2 --35xPlat --3.500.000
5 GLORIA ESTEFAN --30 --4 --3.200.000
6 MECANO --29 --4 --3.090.000
7 JOAQUIN SABINA --28 --2 --2.900.000
8 MADONNA --25 --4 --2.680.000
9 LUIS COBOS --29 --3 --2.645.000
10 MIKE OLDFIELD --24 --4 --2.600.000
11 CAMELA --25 --2 --2.590.000

*i think this list is out of date by about 3-4 years (which is why U2 weren't originally included).

2= Stones/Elvis - 10
3= U2/Queen/Abba/Madonna - 9
4= Michael Jackson/David Bowie/Led Zep - 8

*Bands with the most Platinum certifications in UK now goes something like this :

1. Simply Red (43 Platinum certifications)
2. U2 (38)
3. Queen (36)
4. Oasis (33)
5. Dire Straits (27)
6. Fleetwood Mac (25)

*Including individual artists i'd have to do some more research but i know for sure that only Madonna (50), Robbie W (49) & Wacko Jacko (48) have more than our boys (or Simply Red).
