A new map has appeared for the GelsenKirchen show showing the following layout and capacities for the field:

A(main field area): 9,187 persons
B(auctioned area): 1,736 persons
C(auctioned area): 945 persons
D(enclosed area near main stage): 2,774 persons
E(auctioned area): 945 persons
F(auctioned area): 1,736 persons

TOTAL ON FIELD(all areas combined): 17,323

Thats more than I expected, but of course may change from venue to venue. It remains to be seen though whether this will in fact be roughly the number of people that will be allowed on the field for most shows.

If these numbers were correct, it would mean the first show in Barcelona at Camp Nou could have 115,000 total once the 98,000 people in the off field seated area are added in.

The map is in the claw 2 thread in the General Discussion area for the tour. Its small print and not easy to read.

The stadium in GelsenKirchen can seat 54,000 for a sporting event, so with 17,323 on the field, max capacity for the U2 360 show there will be: 71,323.

The show at the Rogers Centre in Toronto has a map showing that there will be 12,100 on the field. Since it seats 49,539 for sporting events, total capacity for U2 360 should be 61,639.

even with 15-20000 on the pitch for the Barcelona show, i doubt that they have sold 115,000 tix.

there are plenty of blocked off areas if you look at the layout on the u2.com venue layouts

i reckon 18k on the pitch. 85k in the seats

still 103,000! what a way to start!

They put around 82,000 tickets on sale for the opening night which is sold out. I guess that at least 15,000 additional tickets have been reserved for Barcelona football team supporters and special guests.

The lay out for the Barcelona show is only shows the FIRST level of the stadium. The blocked out area's essentially consist of the first 10 rows off the floor in the rear of the stage and one full section on the lower level in back of the lighting/mixing stage. In addition to the other much smaller blocked areas, the number of seats not being used in the stands is not more than 5,000. So, thats 94,000 seats plus what ever capacity they elect to have on field which probably on average is 15,000. So, perhaps 110,000 total. But we won't know for sure either way until the Boxscore comes out.

If they only sold 82,000 tickets, the stadium would look 1/3 empty. 82,000 is what they sold for the Vertigo Tour show back in 2005 which did not use the tens of thousands of seats blocked by the stage in the rear and on the sides. This time, the stage is open providing 360 views, just like the stage set up indoors. This substantially increases the maximum capacity for the show over what it was on the Vertigo Tour which was 82,000.
