US Download chart

87 NE Mary J. Blige & U2 - One 8871 +762% 1029 42173

This will be just to enter the Hot 100 this week, but with those downloads the song is at least likely to enter in the Bubbling Under.

"One" is now avalaible in US I-Tunes, #34, consequently the song is very likely to enter in the Hot 100 already this week.

This is the album version, not the single version. It's been available on iTunes since December 20 when the album was released.

It seems to have gotten a boost from iTunes featuring/promoting the video and from the video entering the rotation on VH1.

Are there any requirements for a track to be included in the Billboard Hot 100? Does a track have to be either released as a single or released to radio to be eligible? For instance, in the UK a track can only enter the singles chart as a download if a physical single is scheduled for release the following week.

Since 1998 you don't need to realease any physical support to be charted in the Hot 100.

Does anyone know if this song will be released in Australia at all, because I haven't heard anything, and i get the feeling that it won't be.

Good call. One debuts at #109 on the Hot 100 Bubbling Under chart this week. It also debuts on the BB Pop 100 at #80. The airplay only charts only pick up the Top 20-30 songs, and it has not showed up on those charts yet. The song is in rotation on Pop radio, but not sure where it stands. Pretty good start for it's first very "unofficial" week.

Other Billboard news...

Billboard has also updated their Europe Top 100 Singles chart and the Top 100 Downloads chart.

On the Singles chart, One is at #8 in it's 9th week.

On the Downloads chart, One is at #10 in it's 11th week.

Look like that Hot 100 Bubbling Under performance had a decent impact on the global MediaTraffic chart as One goes up 2 again to # 7 with 161.000 points (total sales/points now = 997.000)...

...run (& sales/points) so far :

28 (80k) - 29 (79k) - 17 (111k) - 13 (129k) - 13 (136k) - 11 (148k) - 9 (153k) - 7 (161k)

Hopefully top 5 next week...

Week 9 Ireland

One #3 (#2)

It's a big hit there!

I started looking at how One w/MJB and U2 was doing in some of the countries we don't always look at, and was really surprised at just how big of a hit this song is worldwide. South America seems to not have the song available, or at least not for long. OOTS is still charting in several South American countries, however.

The following chart listings for One are based on each country's primary singles chart, with downloads only for Denmark, and several others being airplay only charts. This list does not include the countries we often post about...the song is doing well in most of bigger European countries.

Netherland Antilles - One is 35
Romania - One is 30
Faroe Islands - One is 11
Latvia - 38
Austria - 5
Estonia - 12
Poland - 7
Turkey - 26
South Africa - 34
Bulgaria - 5
Slovenia - 12
Hungary - 2
Chezh Republic - 35
Slovakia - 7
Belgium - 6
Lithuania - 7
Switzerland - 4
Croatia - 5

Yep, # 7 again with 159.000 points/sales (Total now = 1.156.000).

...run (& sales/points) so far at MediaTraffic :

28 (80k) - 29 (79k) - 17 (111k) - 13 (129k) - 13 (136k) - 11 (148k) - 9 (153k) - 7 (161k) - 7 (159k)

This is turning out to be quite a big hit.

In the U.S. anyway, it's way too early to tell if MJB/U2's version of One will be a smash hit. However, unlike U2's singles being mostly restricted to Triple A/Adult Top 40, this song is now on the major radio formats that dictate how a song can do on the Hot 100.

It's in rotation on Urban Mainstream, Hot AC, and Maintream Hits Radio right now. Downloads are big enough to already earn it a spot on the Hot 100. IF the song gains momentum on these major radio formats, it could end up being U2's biggest hit since Mysterious Ways and One both made it to #10 (or even #9) on the Billboard Hot 100...some 14 years ago! (Or maybe Discoteque made it to #9 as well, but it's still been a while).

Still, it could fade away just as easily. Bono's finally got his wish...U2 are now being played on R&B/Hip-hop radio in the U.S.

# 51 in UK...world cup songs are taking over the singles chart.

One fading in U.S. already

One falls out of the BB Hot 100. It drops to 77 on the Pop 100 and does not show up on any other chart. So far, the song has charted based on downloads. Now, airplay will have to carry it, and if that does not pick up in the next few weeks, the song's brief run will be over in the U.S.

Billboard has updated the International charts now, and One fares much better outside of the U.S. For the Eurochart Top 100 singles, it drops one spot to 11. On the Eurochart Top 100 downloads, it stays at #10 for the 3rd straight week.

Billboard lists the Top 5 singles for twenty select countries around the world, and here are other countries where One is at least in the Top 5 or 10 songs per BB's June 24 edition:

Switzerland - One holds steady at #4
Norway - One holds steady at #2
Germany - One drops from 9 to #10

The song is obviously charting in many other countries, but BB only shows the Top 5 (with a few Top 10's) singles for a limited number of locations...

I'm a little surprised that this version of One w/MJB seems to have already run out of steam in the U.S. after a relatively quick start...maybe airplay can still catch up with the initial download push. We need a new U2 album to start tracking!

One debuts at 38 on Billboard's Adult Top 40. It's at 86 on Billboard's Pop 100. It's 18 on the Euro Download chart, and 11 on Billboard's Top 100 Euro Singles.

Mediabase is now allowing access to the top 500 songs on mainstream radio in the U.S., updated twice daily. One has risen from 193 to 101 in the last 7 days. It appears there is still a chance that One could be a hit again here in the States the 2nd time around, as it has been in the ROW.
