I think there have been very few Global tours that only played stadiums at every stop. There have been a few that played a majority of their shows in stadiums as well. I'm only counting tours that hit both Europe and North America at least and it could be argued that still would not constitute a global tour.

Rolling Stones:
Steel Wheels 1989-1990
Voodoo Lounge 1994-1995
Bridges To Babylon 1997-1999

U2:
ZOO TV 1992-1993
POPMART 1997-1998
360 2009-2010

Pink Floyd:
Division Bell 1994

Genesis:
I Can't Dance 1992

Although most of these tours don't actually fit the true definition, these are the tours that come the closest.

Steel Wheels 1989-1990: All stadiums except for 3 shows at the convention center in Atlantic City. Did not play South America or Australia and New Zealand.

I Can't Dance 1992: All stadiums but only covered North America and Europe

ZOO TV 1992-1993: First two legs Arena's, the rest All stadiums. Did not visit South America.

Voodoo Lounge 1994-1995: Perhaps the first real ALL Stadium tour covering nearly all of the planets suitable markets, but there were a couple of shows in Arena's.

Division Bell 1994: All Stadiums but only visited North America and Europe.

POPMART 1997-1998: All stadiums(except Perth Australia but stadium production still used). 93 shows playing every continent except Anarctica.

Bridges To Babylon 1997-1999: A few more arena shows than Voodoo Lounge, but overwhelmingly in stadiums around the world.

U2 360 2009-2010: Finally, after 12 years of no artist launching a full global stadium only tour, U2 launch the 360 tour.

Do you have the tour dates for the "I Can't Dance" Tour?

thanks, mosquito. well it looks like only the Voodoo Lounge Tour and PopMart Tour have ever truly covered the entire planet......and i doubt any other artist will be able to launch such a global tour like those again.

and actually......if you were to be very specific...the only real all-stadium tour would be this 360 Tour since all the other tours listed here had at least one arena show.

I would argue that U2 and the Rolling Stones are the only artists who can come close to selling out stadiums around the world. Some artists, like Madonna, Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Pink Floyd, the Eagles, or the late Michael Jackson, could have had stadium success in certain parts of the world, but not worldwide.

A tour featuring multiple artists could again have success in many areas, but possibly not worldwide. Still, the success of that show is the attraction of many big names, not just one.

So again, I think U2 and the Stones are it for stadium tours - at least for the foreseeable future. Coldplay, U2's apparent "replacement", has not sold out all arena shows. So clearly getting to stadium audience levels is a daunting task - and one I admire U2 for even trying (and succeeding!).

I think Robbie Williams could play stadiums everywhere with the exception of the United States.

I guess this could be considered a stadium tour. the close encounters tour by robbie williams. it sold 1.6 million tickets in a single day. of course they also put all of europes shows on sale at the sametime so...

It's so sad that artists such as Robbie Williams and Michael Jackson can basically sell out stadiums everywhere......except for the US. It seems so unfair.

What about Japan or New Zealand? Has Williams ever played Stadiums in those markets?

We sell enough tickets in arenas as it is to pop stars, I'd hate to see Britney Spears or someone of that ilk filling stadiums here, there'd be even more reason to be afraid of the state of music.

What do you think Coldplay need to accomplish to become the next stadium band? Somebody needs to carry it on after U2 are done.

I think they're overplaying the market right now.....if they maybe scheduled fewer dates, and toured more strategically, they could have more consistent attendances.

Write several more huge singles and play fewer dates. They've had one huge hit per album but that's still only 4 songs every knows not enough for a stadium tour

I've seen u2 in one arena show and three stadiums. The stadiums were better in my opinion. I liked the energy there and the sound was better. Probably because of the open air, the dome atmosphere doesn't work out as well I think.

yeah, i attended my first ever U2 show this tour...and it was AWESOME!!!! :hyper: ....i hope they do arenas on the next tour, so that way i have a good comparison.

I will admit the 360 stage blew away the vertigo and elevation stages. I was at the dallas show couple weeks ago and that is a dome stadium and the sound was freaken awesome in there and insanely loud..haha I was on the field and i'm guessing the sound wasn't as good way up in the nose bleeds. well, my friend was up in the $30 seats and he said it sounded really good up there, so it just depends on where you are at. some spots are bound to be worse or better than others.

Yeah, I was at the Dallas show too! Yeah, same here, GA tickets, so no problems with the sound there. I was about three rows behind the outer circle. What about you?

Dallas show was awesome, but Norman was better imo because there was no roof only sky and you could actually see planes and helicopters hovering over the stadium during the show. Plus it is home for me, so it was nice to have the band here.

I think Robbie Williams is much bigger than Coldplay on a global standpoint. Obviously not in the U.S. though.

In Canada as well Robbie Williams isnt much.

I think potentially a reunited Led Zeppelin could sell out stadiums around the world but that wont ever happen :)

i honestly think the next big stadium act will be Kings of Leon and not Coldplay. Kings of Leon outsold Coldplay by almost double here in the UK on their latest albums!
