I will be genuinely surprised if this year’s shows sell 1 million tickets or gross $100 million. May have overdone my North American predictions...

Nothing screams sell out like curtained off upper level seats, and even with that there’s still empty seats scattered around. It’s embarrassing.

They somehow “sold out” 2 SJ shows with about 20% less people than they had for 2015’s SJ shows.

So far, are St. Louis and San Jose 2 the only shows that have had curtains hanging in the upper level behind the stage? I imagine Omaha and Chicago 2 will soon join the club, and possibly DC 2.

At least this years St. Louis show beat Elevations attendance in the same arena by a few hundred people! Haha. Still about 3,000 short of 2005’s attendance in that venue.

In 2015 they had 35,000+ in the same San Jose venue. So yeah... that kinda sucks. Probably should’ve opted for 1 show, and then a show in Portland or SLC on May 9th.

Vegas 2 was curtained off too.

Well hopefully the unsold tickets get U2 pissed off enough that they get to the bottom of why it happened, and try to rectify it on the next tour.

So if San Jose 1 sold out (ish), how many were at night 2? 11-12,000? That’s unacceptable, I’d be mad as hell if I were them!

LA #2 was like 95% full but tickets were repriced downward significantly in the last few weeks (when they seemed half sold).

This might be an indication of the true size of the hardcore fan base. After the Joshua Tree tour, the casual fans will be buying Doobie Brothers tickets this year.

Unless TicketMaster has a large number of tickets to release still, Omaha might just fill up in time with the reduced prices.

I certainly expect Chicago 2 to sell out.

DC 2 still has some time, so probably no worries there.

What's interesting is when GA tickets for the floor open up so close to the show. I suppose that's a way to try to push the expensive tickets -- sell a specified number of GA tickets initially, then when the seats have filled to a certain percentage get more people on the floor.

Interesting marketing.

A sign that ticketprices a far too high. I know a lot of people who can't come to a show just because of the ticketprices.
And....I think they are too predictable. They should've started in Australia/Japan, and ending the tour inEurope/US.

Yeah, I really thought they should’ve spent 2018 doing Australia/NZ/Asia, then a PROPER tour of Europe, and then saved North America for 2019. Give the spoiled, oversaturated US a chance to miss them.

I would buy seats if they weren't so fucking expensive*

And yeah, hitting many of the same US cities 3 times in the last 4 years is definite oversaturation. I've heard people who really enjoy U2 ask me "What, they're hear AGAIN?"

* Just kidding, I'm a general admission boy

Well, the United Center is supposed to hold roughly 19,000 people, judging by 2015’s standards, which should take us to roughly 38,000. So between the 2 shows there were roughly 5-6,000 unsold seats, mostly for night 2.

Omaha did better than I thought.

LA seems pretty well in line with what the capacity was in 2015.

To your point about the United Center, May 23 (night 2) the sections of the upper deck Level 300 behind the main stage were curtained off, so it wasn’t filled to capacity. Did it sell out? Didn’t look like it to me.

Yeah I was actually there and saw it. It didn't really affect anybody's enjoyment of the show, there was just kind of this black spot in my peripheral vision. So I'm guessing there was about 14-15,000 people at night 2. Eh, whatever... I'm sure they still made money. But they certainly have met the demand in Chicago for awhile.

Atlanta definitely could have used a 2nd show. The first one sold out pretty quick, no doubt due to the low capacity.

These numbers are fine. They are in line, if not better, than most of the other big arena tours.

New York MSG- $8,705,673 for 3 nights. It says the attendance is 18,525, which is incorrect. That is probably the amount for 1 show. At this point, Billboard have the wrong attendance # up for these 3 shows.

Boston- $5,539,769. 35,139.

Montreal- $4,580,121. 42,974.

Washington DC- $4,319,994. 32,053.

Philadelphia- $3,549,210. 31,328.

Newark- $2,523,388. 16,612.

Uniondale- $2,260,713. 14,629.

Now for a little nitpicking, based on 2 night stands in the same venues in 2005 vs 2018.

Boston- 34,583 (2005). 35,139 (2018)
Philadelphia- 39,905 (2005). 31,328 (2018).
Washington- 38,181 (2005). 32,053 (2018).

So Philly had about 8,000 less people than they could have.
DC had about 6,000 less than they could have.

Where do you see that - Pollstar? I keep refreshing Billboard and it doesn’t show up.

But what were the grosses? That’s what really matters (adjusted for inflation too obviously). I imagine avg tickets in 2018 were higher vs 2005 adj for inflation. If they are making less money per show, then that will be a concerning (for them) stat.

All shows grossed more than they did in 2005, except Philly.

I just can’t believe how low the gross and attendance are for Philadelphia. I know, they did just fill a stadium there last year. Did both shows have the upper rear blocked off?

Well now i can see why Canada was pretty much skip for this tour.Montreal had without question the best attendance of the tour for 2 nights (42 974) but yet the gross is behind for most of the other cities who also had 2 night stands.Must be the canadian $.Which was my first toughts for the explanation as for why Canada was skip.
