In the UK, Beatles are credited with 15 No.1 albums, Elvis Presley has 10, Abba, Madonna, David Bowie, Michael Jackson (+ The Jacksons) and Led Zepplin all have 8 albums (everyhit.com).
So with 9 No.1 albums, are U2 the 3rd top act with top spot records? And what is their position in the US?

The Rolling Stones had 10 #1 in UK too, Queen had 9.
In US the Beatles got 19, Elvis 10, Stones 9 and U2 6.

Is there any other artist/band with more than 6 no.1 albums in the US?

There might be others (Madonna?), but I know Sir Elton John had 7 consecutive number ones. In fact, Elton was the first artist in music history to debut an album at #1, which at the time, was an extraordinary feat, considering that the industry tallied sales differently then. Now, albums by superstar acts are considered failures if they DON'T debut at #1.

BTW, not only was Elton John the first artist to debut at #1 in the USA, he was also the second artist to do it (thus, the first artist to have 2 consecutive debuts at #1). Oh and he had a song in the Billboard Hot 100 in every year between 1970 and 2001 (? not sure about the last year, could be 2000 or 2002), something no other artist even comes close to.
