Well, it's a dead rubber. It'd be ridiculous if they didn't pick him.

We're in a really good situation at Wyndhamvale Cricket Club...

Our top side, the A Turf, is up against Grand United in the grand final. Now GU have won the past seven flags in a row, but finally there is a side good enough to match them, us.

We made 284, which was a solid score, one bloke falling four runs short of his ton. GU were 1/75 but eventually we rolled them for 180, one bloke getting five-for.

We're 2/38 at stumps on day two, effectively 2/142.

ENg won by 1 run

Sachin and Co battered NZ

IPL has been moved OUT of INDIA - breaking news on BBC!

The shock and horror that I feel that a NSW player annoys you!!! I can just see your face when Hughes was picked over Rogers... oh well, seems to have turned out ok!

LOL

Siddle is a gun though.

Hussey has got to pick up his game. He is one of the senior bats and he plays stupid shots to get out, and isn't scoring runs. Team I would play the Ashes with, note I am dropping Hussey because he isn't performing. I would take Klinger and Rogers, and I will show contingencies for both playing.

1. Hughes
2. Katich (or Rogers)
3. Ponting
4. Klinger (or Katich if Rogers plays)
5. Clarke
6. North
7. Haddin
8. Johnson
9. Lee
10. Siddle
11. Clark

Notes:

No spinner is good enough to play as a specialist in Aus atm (I have always said McGain wasn't a good option for 2 reasons: 1, he is too old to play for more than a year or 2, 2, he doesn't turn the ball enough or have the variety to be a solid Test bowler). I will preach again that Casson was the man until they fucked him over. I really hope he comes good next season, becuase we need a decent spinner, and he is a better bat than Johnson.

Between Katich (who thoroughly outbowled McGain in the series), Clarke (test 6/9) and North (probably the best of the 3) you have argueably 3 of the top 10 or 15 spinners in Aus already in the team. It is a waste of a spot to pick a specialist atm.

This frees up room for 4 quicks, as it would be hard to leave Lee and Clark out on their records, Johnson is an auto pick, and Siddle should be an auto-pick. Hilfenhaus didn't do enough to book a place in that side.

Picking Klinger or Rogers for me is a win-win. It is the same principle that saw hughes picked: they are both massive run accumulators. Doesn't matter how it looks, the runs on the board are what counts. I would probably pick Klinger, simply for the sake of not disrupting the opening pair.

So my squad would be those 12, plus Bollinger and Hilfenhaus, Hussey, and a very biased nod for Casson, as he is quality and has the potential to run through teams in England. They don't play wristies well.

The Casson nay-sayers first have to answer me one question... Who is a better spinner in Australia? He was NSW number 1 over Hauritz until the selectors forced them to play hauritz to justify picking him in the Test team. He also took some big wickets at the end of the Sheffield Shield season, and scored a couple of 50's this year to go with his 4 last year.

To further prove my point, current Aussie spinners:

Aaron Heal - No spinner from WA has enough exposure to spinning wickets

Dan Cullen - Struggles for a game in the SA 2nd XI

Cullen Bailey - See Dan Cullen

Daniel Doran - Not up to standard, avg of 50+

McGain - Too old, proven ineffectual at Test level

Jon Holland - Best young prospect around, but too green

Nathan Hauritz - Good defensive bowler, not a wicket-taker

Jason Krezja - Has the ability to take wickets on favourable pitches. Has the ability to go for 400 runs in an inning too. Definately not the guy you want in the team unless the bakll is turning square with variable bounce

Beau Casson - Flight, variety, and in his only Test took 3 big wickets. Got similar treatment to Krezja and McGain in his first test, but bounced back to take 3/80
