I'm shattered the Welsh couldn't pull off a miracle against South Africa. They were so close too.

Especially since I'd prefer to face the Welsh in a semi than the Boks. Though on the basis of these quarters I'm not sure how much the All Blacks have to fear. If - if - we can play like we did today, I don't think anybody can stop us. Astonishing levels of skill and cohesion, and some of our passing has to be seen to be believed. It feels like a different team to the one that puttered around the pool games without setting the world alight.

"Who buys U2 records anyway? It's just music for plumbers and bricklayers. Bono, what a slob. You'd think with all that climbing about he does, he'd look real fit and that. But he's real fat, y'know. Reminds me of a soddin' mountain goat."
"And as for Bono, he needs a colostomy bag for his mouth."

High drama in the Ireland vs Argentina game. We're not even twenty minutes in and Argentina have already scored two tries and copped a yellow card while Ireland just had a try disallowed.

God I love finals rugby.

Hah yeah it's nice. Don't think I'll stay up for Australia vs Scotland, especially as the result will probably go very strongly in Australia's favour.

Argentina totally squandered their early advantages with and after that yellow card, and although they have a handy ten point lead at the break the momentum is now all Ireland's. Ought to be a compelling second half.

That was big. Exciting stuff. Great atmosphere at that stadium where the Manics had their famous change of century concert.

(They're probably a bit dejected about Wales losing, though)

That feeling when you feel you've broken through a chain but then you end up running 15m sideways.

This is absolutely thrilling. I think we are about to see one of the great comebacks.

I suspect that if there is still a try left in this game it will be an Irish one.

Great try. Fancy making it when you're already in the process of being ragdolled sideways by 2-3 people.

For the first fifteen minutes and the last fifteen minutes, Argentina played as if they were the All Blacks of last night. For the whole time in between Ireland were in the ascendancy and did too little with it.

I can't believe Ireland still haven't made it to a World Cup semi. It's been fascinating talking to Melburnians about this fixture. They recognise Argentina are getting better but they still seem to think of them as a second-tier rugby country and Ireland (rightly) as a traditional force. Argentina have fucking come third in a World Cup! They're much better on the big occasion than Ireland.
