Most of the people who believe that tennis isn't competitive (EDIT: women's tennis, for the purposes of my point) weren't around when the legends played and dominated and lack the perspective of who was playing who at what point in their respective careers. They just see stats and grand slam numbers and say 'man tennis isn't the way it used to be'. There was a bigger gap between 'greats' and 'averagers' back then. If anything, there is a more level playing field now, at least in women's tennis. That's precisely why it hasn't been exclusively Venus vs Serena since 99.

Congrats Federer. I don't give a shit if he played Nadal or not, a Grand Slam win is a Grand Slam win. Well done.

We'll see him next year at the Australian Open.

sadly the federer/nadal hegemony continues but hopefully murray can take heart from his victory over nadal and take that to the Australian Open.

congrats to federer though. some of the tennis he played was stunning.

Lack of competition?

Lack of competition?

Federer has been too good in recent years! Made it look like there was no competition. Just because someone doesn't like Federer winning doesn't prove lack of competition.
Boring, maybe, but beautiful to watch.

Besides Federer, Nadal and Djokovic who else can you name that is going deep in every slam?

That's why people claim there is a lack of competition.

What is your point? That still doesn't prove anything. Not many players can go deep in every slam. Just because three (or two) players dominate, that still isn't the same as lack of competetion. It just proves that that three (or two) players are better than the rest.
