nothing a little HGH can't fix

Yes, his knees are hurting, but he didn't play much down the stretch last season and I bet he's been working out hard to get back onto the field.

Time will tell.

You know why I like Luis Castillo? Because when I talk about him I get to pronounce his name as Luis CostiJo.

That rolls off the tongue nicely.

Here's to the Tigs signing Brandon Lyons and a lefty specialist before pitchers and catcher report.

We were one of three teams looking to sign Freddy Garcia, and I would have been happy if we had. It's a good low risk/high reward signing. I watched him pitch a couple solid games for the Tigers down the stretch last year. But I read somewhere that he really wanted to be on the same team as Johan, so that might've had something to do with why the Mets were able to pick him up.

So apparently Joe Torre's book on the Yankees is coming out soon, and according to this ESPN article the general tone of the book seems bitter and vindictive (obviously this may or may not be an accurate portrayal of the contents of the book). But assuming it is...

As a Red Sox fan, I can't wait to go to the bookstore, read the book and snicker.

As a baseball fan, I'm kind of surprised and disappointed that Torre would take a huge steaming dump on the Yankee Stadium front porch on his way out. Didn't figure that he'd be the type of person to do something like this.

The article linked above has been revised; it now seems to portrays the book as more of a retrospective on Torre's Yankee career and less of a hatchet job.

Yeah, one should reserve judgement on "Torre's" new book, until it actually comes out. The book is not a first person account, but a collection of interviews with various baseball personnel.

Honestly, I couldn't care less about this book. It's no secret that Torre had a hot and cold relationship with Yankee upper management. Plus, we all knew that A-Rod wasn't exactly his favorite personality in the clubhouse.

Negotiatons, Saint Andy Pettitte style:

Shallow Hal Steinbrenner: Andy, thanks for the decent 2008 season.
Mr. Hankey Steinbrenner: Andy, we're prepared to ofer you $10 Million for 2009.
Saint Andy Pettitte: But I made $16Million this year!
Shallow Hal Steinbrenner: We think you're on the downside since you stopped getting "packages" from your dad.
Mr. Hankey Steinbrenner: Plus we're in a huge recession, contracts won't be as big.
Saint Andy Pettitte: But you gave C.C Sabathia 161 Million over 7 years and AJ Burnett of all people $82.5million over 5 years.
Shallow Hal Steinbrenner: You aren't as good or as young as them.
Mr. Hankey Steinbrenner: Plus they have cool initial names and you don't, maybe if you changed your name to HGH Pettitte, we could up it to $10.5 Million.
Saint Andy Pettitte: Screw you guys.

A month passes:

Shallow Hal Steinbrenner: Andy, we'll give you $5.5 million for 2009.
Mr. Hankey Steinbrenner: And thats our final offer.
Saint Andy Pettitte: I'll take it! I'm gonna call Jason Varitek and teach him how to negotiate.

I think he likes to be called Saint Andrew.

Plus, his contract does include performance bonuses in addition to 5-6 million that the Yanks signed him to.

I have no idea why "Ape Tit" isn't yet a standard nickname for him.

I think I wanna miss work for two weeks. Should I call in a "15-Day Pavano"?

(I just read a review of Joe Torre's book)

I was watching PTI tonight and about 1/2 the show was football, 1/4 was college basketball, and 1/4 was baseball. I was most excited during the baseball parts, and I realized how fuckin' hyped I am for ball to start up again. We don't even have to sit through a month of crappy spring training either (thank you WBC)

Normal

Is it a coincidence that pitchers and catchers report on Valentines Day?
