just a qustion, how long can a team keep a player under thier control until they are a free agent? I never was sure. thanks. Like if a player came up on sept 1rst 2000, when would he become a free agent?

when a player comes up from the minor leauges, they have to be on a major leauge roaster for a certain amount of time before they can become free agent. Yes, a team could give them a contract right away and that would just take them past thier arbitration years. I know in the CBA they have to have a certain amount of time played first.

If they started in April, 2011, the team would control them until the season ends in 2016. If they started in June, 2011, the team would control them until the season ends in 2017.
With the first case, said player would be granted "Super 2" status after their second season and enter into arbitration (raises) early (2013 season). With the second case, the player wouldn't enter into arbitration until the 2014 season. Got it? ![]()
