Renderings of the Rangers' proposed retractable roof stadium in Arlington, tentatively scheduled to open in 2021.

The A's need a new stadium. The Rangers don't. The Rangers are getting one, the A's aren't. Oakland is smart not to give tax money for a stadium.

Everything is stupider in Texas.

Yeah, and the fuckin' Braves don't need one either. Their stadium is younger than the Rangers' ballpark. At least the Rangers are finally getting a stadium with a roof.

Atlanta is replacing their NFL stadium, built in '91 & the baseball park, built for the '96 Olympics. There was also rumblings about replacing the Philips Arena, which was built in '99. Terrific priorities that city has.

It's not even really the city's fault at this point. The Braves are moving out to the suburbs to a town with no public transportation access.

Braves are building a new stadium (or, rather, having Cobb County build them a new stadium), pretty much because they think white people don't want to go to Turner Field.

It's the Steinbrenner moving the Yankees to Jersey argument, only they actually followed through.

I heard Danny Ferry was hired to their marketing team.

That area in Atlanta is very new, clean, blah blah blah.

But why anyone would abandon public transportation is beyond me. And Atlanta's public transit is nice and cheap.

There are faults with the Philly sports complex setup, but having all the stadiums together in an area with plenty of parking and a subway line that runs right up to all of them is pretty good all things considered.

Unless it's Foxboro

There was a time not terribly long ago that the old Foxboro/Schaefer/Sullivan Stadium used to feature tens of thousands of fans disguised as empty metal benches on any given Sunday. Winning sells tickets, though not always in Atlanta as the Braves had many non sell out playoff games. Take the Braves into the burbs with the team they field currently, place will be empty.

23 years ago today, a fly ball bounced off Jose Canseco's head and went over the fence for a home run.
