How crazy was the storm before the game? Weird night, weird game.

Watched the second half of that scrimmage at a saloon/arcade bar. There's a King of Kong poster that doubles as a peephole to goofy '70s porn. A few folks lingered on that longer than the game.

So I don't follow college at all -- I go to UCF though and we can never decide if we suck or not.

How serious is a division like the new AAC in football? I know it looks promising for basketball.

Rumor: Texas firing Manny Diaz (DC) after two games.

Louisville, Houston and UCF are all undefeated but no big wins. There were some bad losses though - UConn, for one, had a terrible loss. So did USF.

But that conference loses some people after this year. Louisville goes to the ACC, Rutgers goes to the B1G. And then they'll bring in some good football programs like East Carolina and Tulsa and also add Tulane in 2014 (and later Navy in 2015). So it should be a decent non-power league in football.

UCF should have no problem competing in that league. I just can't believe USF is so bad. That program has some serious upside. Well, they both do.

The AAC gets an automatic bowl bid though, right? Without any marquee schools how is it any better than the MAC or the WAC?

USF made it to #2 sometime in '06, if memory serves.

The AAC is essentially a spinoff of what was to be the extended Big East, before all of the Catholic schools freaked out or something, I can't remember.

Ohhh, I somehow missed that story.

And they retained their auto-bid?

EDIT: Oh, that makes sense, DB. But is the BCS really ending? I thought it was going to remain, just with the four team playoff. I guess that wouldn't make much sense.

Yep, it will officially be the "College Football Playoff" next year. My understanding is that a committee will select 12 teams for the final four plus four other New Years Day bowls. There are no automatic bids that I know of.

To be realistic, NSW. I think we are going to have to accept SEC control for the time being.

Isn't that selection aided by BCS rankings? Either way, it's going to be awful to see half of the SEC involved in a playoff every year.

I don't know all the details, but I don't think there will be BCS rankings next year. I'm sure the committee will consider various polls, but I don't think they are bound to any of them.

IIRC, ESPN has been working on a quality ranking system like the RPI for college basketball as well.

.

The details haven't been settled yet but there's a lot of rumor. The BCS is certainly ending but there might be a RPI-like system that the committee will use as a guideline (just as with hoops) but it's unknown what that would be.

And yeah, they wouldn't be bound to any of it.

How crazy was the storm before the game? Weird night, weird game.

Storm was crazy for Utah. I saw some rotation in some of those clouds. Reminded me of storms I used to see in the Midwest. I missed the first half of the game because the power went out.

It's funny to read the Texas message boards after the game. Meltdown is an understatement. They are ranking this with their 66-3 loss to UCLA in 1997 (dubbed "Rout 66") as worst in program history.

All of this plus TCU"only" beating SE LA by 38-17 AND this:

TCU Horned Frogs QB Casey Pachall has arm surgery - ESPN

is making this possibly the worst college football day of my shorter time watching.

UGH just look at this:

I know it's only week two, I'm just bummed out about this season a little already.

Things could always be worse, you could have USC's "offense". Having seen it twice now, well, I'm going to need a liver transplant at the end of the season. It's going to take copious amounts of alcohol to survive it.

Our QBs cannot throw the ball past the line of scrimmage, seriously. There have been exactly 0 plays beyond 20 yards. 0. They threw for about 50 yards on Saturday. I'm pretty sure Oregon had multiple plays longer than that. Well, the bright side is that we will be getting a new coach soon. Hell, if they manage to lose to BC and Utah State, Kiffin should be fired before October.

Le sigh.

How was your trip to Hawaii, trojanchick? I watched some of that game and could tell USC was going to have problems later on. Hawaii has been one of the worst teams in FBS the last couple years.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Utah State game is close. The Aggies have been pretty solid the last couple years and have a legit QB in Chuckie Keeton.
