Your Most Listened to Artists of 2010

Since these sorts of lists can often wind up quite different than a "favorites" or "best" list (and sometimes can even help you shape your list), I thought it would be interesting to share our most listened to artists of the year.

If you have Last FM, this is quite simple to acquire this info with the "Last 12 months" tab for your artists or songs. If not, you can attempt it less scientifically with your music player's play counts or flat out guessing.

Here are my top 10 artists based on total listens:
  1. The New Pornographers
  2. Shearwater
  3. The National
  4. U2
  5. Arcade Fire
  6. Los Campesinos!
  7. Sufjan Stevens
  8. Jonsi
  9. Midlake
  10. Broken Social Scene

(Very closely followed by Four Tet, Radiohead, Beach House, Vampire Weekend, and Okkervil River)

I may include songs later. Let's see everyone else's lists!

This was an interesting discovery for me, as my list shows some surprises (most notably, the absence of Radiohead, who still sits atop my all-time listening list by a comfortable margin).

1. The National
2. Depeche Mode
3. The Cure
4. Morrissey
5. Elton John
6. U2
7. Miles Davis
8. Feist
9. Neil Young
10. LCD Soundsystem

1. The National - 95
2. R.E.M. - 91
3. Broken Social Scene - 83
4. Gorillaz - 81
5. The Flaming Lips - 80
6. The New Pornographers - 78
7. Kanye West - 76
8. David Bowie - 70
8. Bob Dylan - 70
8. Elliott Smith - 70

Total plays for 2010:

9301.

So yeah, I don't really listen to that much of any one artist. I don't even rank High Violet all that highly for the year, so the National being #1 doesn't really count for much.

I don't use last.fm so I have no idea, but surely my #1 would be LCD Soundsystem. I went from not being able to name a sob of theirs at the beginning of the year to being a rabid fan by year's end.

I'm glad you pointed it out, scumbo, I didn't want to be the one to do it.

I don't have Last FM so I'll take guesses:

Neon Indian
Memory Tapes
LCD Soundsystem
Sufjan Stevens
Here We Go Magic
Big Boi
Okkervil River
Washed Out
Beatles
Yeasayer

I could be totally off the ball here for a few of them, but eh. edit: whoops I forgot Yeasayer, I'd say they would have made the ten easily.
