Don´t mean to bump an old thread pointlessly, but I just got into Wilco and it´s because of this performance that no one seems to have mentioned.

These guys are my setlist heroes. I saw the first and third of the consecutive shows in Brooklyn and New York and got to hear 46 different songs in completely different sets, including an AM/Being There/Summerteeth dominated set on the second night (these songs sound great next to the new album, by the way). Even after seeing a lot of their shows, there is no other band I would take live over Wilco.

Pretty much my sentiments after seeing both Red Rocks shows last month. Although there are bands I would put first (U2, Radiohead & Sigur Ros come to mind right away), I was so happy to rekindle my love affair with Wilco this summer. I told a friend the next day that I'd just heard like 50 different Wilco songs at Red Rocks, though I didn't actually count.

By the way, gump, the epic 2nd Red Rocks show is downloadable from Wilco World, though not for free.

Thanks. I should probably download this Red Rocks show, such a great set. I might wait until there's confirmation as to whether any of the Brooklyn/New York shows will be on the roadcase, I'd like to have one of those. It seems that nyctaper.com was at the Terminal 5 show, so there may be a bootleg anyways.

It's almost a toss-up between Wilco and Radiohead for me, but I give an edge to Wilco because of the diversity of their setlists. U2 is still great on an emotional level, but I feel less and less the need to see more than one or two of shows every tour.

Awesome pair of sets, gump.

The set I got in May scared me - it had such an emphasis on the fluffy 20% of their catalog. I love sugar pop more than most, but it was disturbing that night. It felt like they were playing their most immediately catchy songs in an attempt to win new fans. I'm glad to see they're still digging deep.

I'm in here to say that this album is my favorite album since High Violet. I adore it and keep coming back to it again and again. It's gorgeous, and its bookends alone would make it a great album.

Now I'm leaving this thread, but, my words will echo for eternity.

As does everything we do in life.

Which has terrifying implications.

Somewhere, in the infinite expanse of eternity, Muldfeld can be heard extolling Battlestar Galactica. Forever.

Those bookends are really gorgeous. My favorite part of their recent shows as well, especially Sunday Morning. That simple acoustic guitar riff is just so good.

By the way, there is a very good bootleg of their July 25 show, which had a great set (Hesitating Beauty, anyone?). And it's done with the band's permission, so it's all legal:

Quote:
A few hours after this post appears on the site, the entire NYCTaper crew will drive four hours up to Cooperstown to see Wilco again at the Ommegang Brewery. The reason why we will travel so far is essentially encapsulated in this recording. On Wednesday, we all saw Wilco at Terminal 5, and the band once again reminded us about why we’ll make sacrifices as fans to see them live. The meme of all the Wilco reviews on nyctaper (and there are a lot) is that this band is extremely good to its fans. The long sets, interesting song selections, lengthy encores and full dedication to the performance positions Wilco as the preeminent live band around today, and for the better part of the last two decades. On Wednesday, we were treated to a “deep cut” setlist where songs were performed that we haven’t seen very often or at all since the 1990s. “What’s The World Got in Store” is probably the rarest of the tracks — a song from the first record of the two-lp 1996 album Being There. We are streaming it below, along with “Passenger Side”, another early era nugget that has seen infrequent plays in recent years. The final treat was a heartfelt final encore (the 9th encore song) of “The Lonely 1″, another Being There song and one that I’m not sure that I’ve ever actually seen live. Its these kinds of treats that keep us coming back. I’m sure Cooperstown will yield the same kind of satisfaction.

I really hope we get One Sunday Morning in Santa Fe. I read that apparently the song was seeded in Santa Fe, over a meal Tweedy had with Jane Smiley's boyfriend who told Tweedy that story about his father. I think it's one of the finest things Tweedy has ever written and was breathtaking when they walked out onstage at Red Rocks and opened the show with it. All of Red Rocks was silent, I swear.

Oh, and NSW in a Wilco thread, saying the right things.

I'm listening to this right now for the hundredth time.

That opening duo is fucking intense in and in your face, a great FUCK YOU to everyone (Laz) calling them lame dad rock. Black Moon reminds me of the most haunting and beautiful Neil Young ballads.
