I just went through my calendar so I could contribute to this thread. Piss-poor year for concerts for me, but some highlights were (in chronological order):

Keith Emerson and Greg Lake
Red Sparowes and Fang Island
Dungen (maybe the best one of the year)
Arcade Fire
Robert McDuffie/Venice Baroque Orchestra playing Vivaldi and Philip Glass (also maybe the best one of the year)
Grinderman

(All of these were in the greater LA area.)

All of these shows were in the Boston/ New England area... Pretty much the only "bad" concerts were Cyndi Lauper (a blues set that I was forced into going to, but it really didn't change my mind of the overall concert) and Passion Pit (the worst live act ever?). To say that an act like The National is on my list shows just how incredible the shows I went to were. Little Boots and The Mary Onettes cancelled on me.

Just so people don't get the wrong idea: Passion Pit are very good live, much better than they should be, and bono_212 is just being ridiculous because the set they played was too heavy on EP material.

Am I mistaking them for someone else we saw? I'm asking honestly, because I don't recall being impressed at all by their performance, regardless of the fact that they didn't play my favorite song by them and played like the entirety of their EP, which I don't like.

Doesn't sound like they were awful to me. I thought they were great.

Bastard, using my own words against me. I apologize then. I wonder what band I was thinking of.

No it was not Kaiser Chiefs. It was someone I actually like, but was really disappointed by them live.

My disappointment with them stemmed from 1) a shit venue 2) not starting til like 11pm 3) their songs having no room to move live 4) I'd stopped listening to Manners by then

no, and now my inability to remember is starting to bug me. I'll have to go look through the 2009 Lolla lineup to see if that was it.

The Antlers released the very well-received album "Hospice" last year... Pretty good album, but it translates much better live.

The major reason why Passion Pit is so terrible live: have you ever heard the lead "singer" sing? Also, the music lacks a certain punch that the album and EP have. It's similar in the way that MGMT (a band I don't really like other than their "hot singles") sounds weak live. Look up "Electric Feel" live, and it generates a complete sense of malaise.
