Little hand says it's time to rock and roll.
I wanted to call this the Top 25 albums of the decade, but I know some of you shit nuggets will never stop at 25. Here's mine. You know the drill. Yes, yes, yes we all know it's "way too soon" for you self-important artist types to try to evaluate an entire decade, but let me recommend that you stop being gaping pussies for a moment and remember that this is the internet and none of it matters.

Thanks for starting the thread. I'm working on a few lists for my favorite songs and albums, but they need some whittling down.

I was just yammering over on Facebook about putting U2 on these lists (a friend joked that my list of top songs would all be U2). It's like I'm such a big U2 fan that I struggle with comparing them to other music. I kind of compare them to other U2 songs and albums, but sometimes can't figure out where they fit in the larger picture.

Like, I'm thinking about putting ATYCLB on the fave albums list, even though I think No Line is better. It's like it belongs there because it set the tone for U2 in this decade (for better or worse), and hey, I sure did love it when it came out. Also, I think NLOTH is too new for it to end up in a "best of the decade" list. Maybe.

I know it doesn't matter, since it's just my list of shit I've dug over the past 10 years, but there you go.

I'm going to attempt to come up with a list today, so I set up a playlist in iTunes with only 2000s music. Apparently, 13,064 of my 20,749 songs (or about 63%) are from this decade, which is a bit absurd when I think about it.

Anyway, hopefully the list doesn't end up with 92 albums on it...shooting for 50 or so.

So far, I have a list of about 45 albums, 70 or so songs, and 29 of my Big, Dumb Pop songs, because they're so beloved, they need their own list.

If they're in order, post your list fool.

They're in alphabetical order for each release year. Hardly ready to be posted. But I'm working on it. I'm also going to add eight more to make it a cool 100.

Man, doing a list of top songs of the decade would be insane. Way more difficult than albums. Off the top of my head I would be very tempted to say that "Wake Up" is the song of the decade. "Rebellion (Lies)" and "Neighborhood #1" are stunning, as well. I'm not even particularly a big fan of that band (mostly due to their personalities/nationality) but, yeah, I think "Wake Up" would maybe be my song of the decade.

The hardest part of my favorite songs list so far? Picking a song off Funeral. Hell, I don't think I can even pick two. There are a solid 4 that I love so much, I can't bear to leave them off any list.

1999 release, Mikal. Feel free to include Weathered though.

"All My Friends" is my song of the decade, and it's really not even close. There's no way I'm doing that list though. It would push into the 500s easily.

I didn't know you were an Amos Lee fan.

I prefer Famous Amos.

Obviously.

I feel like I really need to watch that. Maybe starting from the beginning will be a good way to break in the BD player.

I didn't know you were an Amos Lee fan.

Hilariously enough, one of his albums is looking like it might make my list. Not the one with "All My Friends" on it though.

However, LCD's "All My Friends" kicks the Amos Lee song's ass all over the place, without a doubt.

Yeah, that's kinda what I was getting at. I was also in a goofy mood and felt like posting a clip from Lost in a music thread for some reason. Anyway...

This is certainly not any sort of finalized list but just off the top of my head some of my favorite songs of the decade from some of my favorite artists. And a few that I feel sort of define the 2000s:

"Pyramid Song" and "Reckoner" by THE HEAD!
"Wake Up" and "Rebellion (Lies)" by Arcade Fire
"We Don't Care" by Kanye West
"Imitation of Life" by R.E.M.
"Take A Bow" and "Umbrella" by Rihanna
"Someday" and "Last Nite" by The Strokes
"Paper Planes" by M.I.A.
"Beautiful Day" and "City of Blinding Lights" by U2
"Hey Ya!" by THE KAST!
"Chicago" and "Casimir Pulaski Day" by Sufjan Stevens
"Fake Empire" by THE NASH!
"Ball and Biscuit" and "Fell In Love Wif A Girl" by The White Stripes
"Such Great Heights" by Postal Service
"One Day Like This" by Elbow
"LDN" by Lily Allen
"Helicopter" by Bloc Party
"Touch Me I Think I'm Going To Scream Pt. 2" and "One Big Holiday" by My Morning Jacket
"Stan" by Eminem
"Take Me Out" by Franz Ferdinand
"Maps" by Yeah Yeah Yeahs
"Stuck Between Stations" by The Hold Steady

And I will stop now because I could probably keep listing shit for a long time and I have to go eat dinner.
