Anyways, I don't know why we're even having this conversation. US vs. UK? PSHHH who cares? Sweden is where it's at. It is no contest. Sweden beats any country hands down!

I mean, when you have a list of bands like:

A.C.T
Älgarnas Trädgård
Anekdoten
Änglagård
Beardfish (band)
The Flower Kings
Kaipa
Karmakanic
Landberk
Mister Kite
Moon Safari (band)
Nightingale (band)
Paatos
Qoph (band)
Ragnarök (Swedish band)
Samla Mammas Manna
Sörskogen
Trio (Swedish band)
Violent Silence
Waterclime
ALPHA 60
Ashbury Heights
Blue for Two
The Carnation
Det Vackra Livet
Doctors & Dealers
Dunge
Grizfolk
Headplate
Her Bright Skies
Honey Is Cool
Kent (band)
The Mary Onettes
Mind:state
Morlocks (band)
Nina Rochelle
Peace Love & Pitbulls
Polly Tones
Salt (band)
The Soundtrack of Our Lives
Spiritual Beggars
The Wannadies
Allen-Lande
Bulletrain
Corroded (band)
Crazy Lixx
Demons (band)
Drain STH
Dundertåget
Dynazty
Easy Action (band)
Europe (band)
Fatal Smile
Fire (Swedish hardrock band)
Gaeleri
Hardcore Superstar
The Hellacopters
Human Clay (band)
Humanimal (band)
It's Alive (band)
Lambretta (band)
Last Autumn's Dream
Maryslim
Mogg
Nasty Idols
November (band)
Shotgun Messiah
Talisman (band)
Thunder Express
Treat (band)
Vains of Jenna
ZooL

.......and many more. Clearly Sweden is the superior in this contest. Selecting just 10 bands as a result is quite a challenge. Cheers.

Has anyone mentioned Wilco yet? I can't come up with a top ten anything, but just thought I should throw that name in the mix for the US. In the top ten of all time, ever? Maybe not, but over the last 15 years, maybe. Even if it does rest on three or so albums and a lot of live stuff.

That Swedish band list doesn't include the Backyard Babies, so clearly it's bullshit.

UK

Beatles
Stones
Kinks
Who
Small Faces
Animals
Yardbirds
Moody Blues
Led Zep
Sabbath
T.Rex
Slade
Roxy Music
Cockney Rebel
Mott The Hoople
Queen
Fleetwood Mac
Supertramp
Clash
Pistols
Buzzcocks
Jam
Stranglers
Siouxsie & The Banshees
The Specials
Madness
XTC
Joy Division/New Order
The Pretenders
Echo & The Bunnymen
Simple Minds
Eurythmics
Smiths
The Jesus & Mary Chain
Wah (If only for Story Of The Blues)
ELO
The Cult
The Men They Couldn't Hang
Stone Roses
James
Morcheeba
Radiohead
Stereophonics
Suede
Oasis
Muse

Probably a lot more I can't think of right now, and thats not to mention the great solo artists, such as, Bowie, Elton, Stewart, Kate Bush, Ian Dury, etc.

US
Doors
Beach Boys
Velvet Underground
Stooges
The Cars
Steely Dan
Fleetwood Mac
Eagles
New York Dolls
Talking Heads
Blondie
Springsteen/E Street Band
REM
The Pixies
Placebo
Green Day
Guns 'n' Roses
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
Arcade Fire
The Killers

Again, like the UK, probably a lot more I can't think of right now, not to mention the incredible solo artists from the US, such as, Elvis, Dylan, Stevie Wonder, Sinatra, Prince, Diana Ross, etc.

I think its fair to say both countries have produced an incredible amount of brilliant groups, who have all contributed massively to the music industry

In no order.

UK

Talk Talk
Tindersticks
The Police
Pet shop Boys
The Smiths
Belle & Sebastian
Joe Jackson Band
Soft Machine
Fairport Convention
Stereolab

US

R.E.M.
The Beach Boys
The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
Reigning Sound
Lambchop
Pixies
Sonic Youth
Talking Heads
Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
Oblivians

Though any of the Frank Zappa tour bands would be right on top of the US list.
And Fleetwood Mac should be on both UK and US lists.
