:yikes: Ouch, what do you have, Steph?

It's more a question of what I don't have. My wisdom teeth were removed on Tuesday. The surgery itself was fun because I was high as a kite, but things are not fun at all right now. Can't eat, can't sleep, throwing up occasionally from the meds, you name it. So a word of advice - if you have impacted wisdom teeth in a couple of years, ONLY remove them if they give you trouble. Don't be an idiot like me and remove them just because some dentist tells you they might give you trouble later.

But hey, enough about my teeth. All this praise for Icky Thump is getting me very excited! This, particularly, has me excited:

And it's the little things that are the most odd...the time signatures (which they seem to not even follow at times), the strange, wordy narratives (Little Cream Soda, 300 MPH), and songs with no discernible structure or melody whatsoever (St. Andrew, Catch Hell Blues).

I think I'm going to love it.

I definitely think it will cheer you up out of your post-surgery haze. ;)

Effect & Cause has probably my favorite Jack White lyrics ever:

I guess you have to have a problem
If you want to invent a contraption
First you cause a train wreck
Then you put me in traction

Well, first came an action
And then a reaction
But you can't switch around
For your own satisfaction
Well, you burned my house down, then got mad
At my reaction

Well, in every complicated situation
You're the human relation
Makin' sense of it all
Take a whole lot a concentration

Well, you can blame my baby
For her pregnant ma
And if there's one of these
On the order for laws
It's that you just can't take the effect
And make it the cause

Well, you can't take the effect
And make it the cause
I didn't rob a bank
Because you made up a law
When you people robbin' Peter
Don't you blame Paul
Can't take the effect
And make it the cause

I ain't the reason that you gave me no reason to return your call
You built a house of cards and got shocked when you saw them fall
Well are you sayin' I'm innocent?
In fact the reverse
But if you're headin' to the grave
You don't blame the hearse
You're like a little girl yellin' at her brother
'Cause you lost his ball

Well you keep blamin' me for what you did
And that ain't all
The way you clean up a wreck
Is enough to get one pause
You seem to forget
Just how this song started
I'm reactin' to you because you left me broken-hearted
See, you just can't take the effect
And make it the cause

Can't take the effect
And make it the cause
I didn't rob a bank
Because you made up a law
Blame people robbin' Peter
Don't you blame Paul
Can't take the effect
And make it the cause

In Conquest, Jack White duels with a mariachi band. And Bone Broke was written in '98, for those self titled/De Stijl lovers. :sexywink:

Catch Hell Blues = Death Letter 2K7. That's certainly not a bad thing.

And I'm getting a great "Dreamer In My Dreams" vibe from Effect & Cause. It's probably my favorite Stripes closing track ever. Seriously great wordplay and an all around fun, folky jam.

My dentist (Crentist) told me I have impacted wisdom teeth that might give me trouble later.

My inner Ackbar is telling me "It's a trap!"

Aw, I really hope you feel better soon  That sounds awful...few things are quite as horrible as lingering dental pain. I've just had a few things done, and they were annoying enough...I'm imagining the wisdom procedure is that x 100 :(

When it comes to openers and closers, Icky Thump fares really well. The title track is my second favorite White Stripes opener ever (nothing beats Seven Nation Army), and Effect & Cause is probably my favorite closer.

I figured out the chords for I'm Slowly Turning Into You:

Verse: G-F

(G)I'm slowly turning in(F)to you, but you don't kn(G)ow this t(F)o be true...

Chorus/Bridge: G-D-C-Bb-A (root note)

(G) And I'm slow(D)ly turn(C)ing in(Bb)to(A) y(G)ou...

 If only I could play

I've got a feeling this may end up being the biggest single from the album. It's almost campy, in a way, but highly addictive

Oh, it's definitely the catchiest. I miss the keyboard that used to be on it, and I'm not crazy about that organ, but it's still undeniably cool. The solo is my favorite on the record, and the "la-la"'s are genius.

Dude, cheap is NOT the way to go here. :tsk: He'll be sorry.

Lila has Row W I think, and I'm in the 5th row colonade right behind them. So we're pretty close and I got money for a beer.

Couldn't decide if I wanted floor tix.

Effect & Cause is just three chords:

A, D, E

Just play along with it to get the order. It's pretty basic blues. Great song.

Nah, he'll be fine! And I'm in row 'V'.
Forum is better than Staples Center. 300's at Staples are so much farther away than Colonade at the Forum. It's kinda like high loge at Staples.

yeah, i'm getting the hang of it..great song!

The only songs I'm really not sold on are St. Andrew, Little Cream Soda, and Martyr. The rest I'm quite pleased with.

This album just keeps getting better and better. I'm almost kind of sorry that Ryan Adams' new album comes out today because Icky Thump is gonna have to take a backseat for awhile.
