Andy and Stewart are in L.A. right now, but I don't know about Sting. On Sunday afternoon, Andy did a 1 hour discussion, followed by a signing of his book, at the LA Times Book Festival. He mentioned that he had only flown in the night before from Italy.

My own personal feeling is they will be doing some rehearsing here in L.A. over the next couple of weeks before heading up to Vancouver where it seems they could load in on May 23rd and spend a few days rehearsing until the first show on the 27th.

Andy has a book of his photos coming out within the next 2 weeks from Taschen Books who had a booth there at the Book festival. I asked if Andy may be doing a book presentation at their Beverly Hills store and they indicated that it may happen. That seems to imply that he will be in L.A. for the next couple of weeks at least. Also, I have heard a rumor that there may be an L.A. club show performance, possibly at the Viper Room, prior to Vancouver. Who knows if that will actually happen, but as they did do the short perforamnce at the Whiskey, I wouldn't be too surprised.

How many months or days can they spend in the US during 2007 before the taxes become burdonsome? Their North American dates this year appear to be about the same as U2s last couple tours - with more dates to be announced for November.

It's a bit complicated:

6 months is the magic number?(183 days)

I was under the impression that U2 could only spend around 4 months(120 days) in the US during each of 2001 and 2005.

It comes out to about 120( per year over a 3 year period). If you look at the formula in the chart:
for 2004, 2005, 2006:
120/6 + 120/3 + 120 =180 which is less than 183.

Then the second part is 183 in current year. I thought they spent 120 max too. But it looks like there are caveats in that chart (in the footnotes).

ETA: Actually, I think the 120 applies because of the bottom box about a foreign "tax home". U2 does not pay federal tax to Ireland either, so the 120 days applies.

The current current POLICE schedule only has them in the USA for about 2 months(60 days including off-nights)

At the moment, If 120 days is correct, they may only do 4-6 weeks in November in USA, unless they plan to fly out on off days to Mexico or Canada.

Given this schedule for GM Place arena in Vancouver(not to mention the strong likelihood of Playoff dates needed for NHL hockey playoffs) Does anybody know where and when they are rehearsing?
Looks like GM Place will be vacant sooner rather than later....

I think the key with this is Sting. Stewart is an American, so it's no issue with him. Andy, as far as I know, lives permanently year round in Los Angeles. He's lived in LA since the 1980s and previously lived and worked in L.A. from 1968 to 1973, so I assume he has no issues with touring in the U.S. Sting lives in various cities around the world including New York and Malibu, but I don't know what his legal status is, so he's the one who will impact the amount of shows they could do in the US.

I'm looking forward to the Police shows here in L.A., which along with London, amount to the homecoming shows on the tour.

Except for one event on May 22nd, GM Place in Vancouver is vacant until the opening of the tour.

All 3 are rehearsing at an Indian Reservation recreational center in North Vancouver.

They will be spending about 20 days in May in town, adding up to about a month total if you count the rehearsals earlier in the year.

Tickets are still available for the 5/27/07 Fan Club show at GM Place - Capacity was set at 8,000 which is less than half the 19,000 that will see them on both 5/28/07 and 5/30/07.

The 5/22 Brad Paisley concert has now been bumped to mid October, clearing the schedule for The Police Crew to take over GM Place until the end of the month.

Sting found guilty of sexual discrimination
Thursday, May 10 2007, 12:24 BST

By Matt Houghton

Sting and his wife have been found guilty of sexual discrimination after breaking employment law in sacking their personal chef.

Jane Martin was fired after she became pregnant - an act that the tribunal considered "shameful conduct".

In a unanimous verdict the tribunal found that Sting and his wife, Trudie Styler, had dismissed Miss Martin unfairly and that she had been the victim of unlawful sexual discrimination.

According to the Daily Mail, the couple could face a record fine, since there is no limit to the compensation tribunals can order in the face of sexual discrimination.

Personally, I think this is total bullshit. She's probably just playing the preggy card to cover up her shitty job as a chef.
