The National - Trouble Will Find Anthony Fantano

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

Fuck, their setlists in South East Asia are much shorter than they were in Australia. I wonder why that is.

With Lena Dunham. Should be a good one. One of the better host/band pairings in recent memory, at least for me.

Is Matt always too tall for his microphone stand?

was reduced to tears just thinking about this song tonight.

I'm in the city you hated
My eyes are fallen
Counting the clicks with the living dead
My eyes are red
I'm in the crush and I hate it
My eyes are fallen
I'm having trouble inside my skin
I try to keep my skeletons in

Is it weird to be back in the South
And can they even talk?
When the city girls was ever there
Or anywhere
I'm having trouble inside my skin
I try to keep my skeletons in
I'll be a friend and a fuck-up and everything
But I'll never be
Anything you ever want me to be

I keep coming back here where everything slipped
And I will not spill my guts out
I keep coming back here where everything slipped
But I will not spill my guts out

I don't need any help to be breakable, believe me
I know nobody else who could laugh along to any kinda joke
I won't need any help to be lonely when you leave me
It'll be easy to cover
Gather my skeletons far inside
It'll be summer in Dallas before I realise

I don't want you to grieve but I want you to sympathise alright
I can't blame you for losing your mind for a little while, so did I
I don't want you to change but I want you to recognise, that I
It'll be easy to cover
Gather my skeletons far inside
It'll be summer in Dallas before you realise
That I'll never be
Anything you ever want me to be

I keep coming back here where everything slipped
And I will not spill my guts out
I keep coming back here where everything slipped
But I will not spill my guts out

Man, those SNL performances are fucking stellar. I like how the guitar tone on Graceless has changed just slightly from the album version, emphasising that there's some dark themes in the song. And that he screamed. Not sure what Bryce is up to during I Need My Girl, but holy shit, what a fucking band. So pumped to see them again in a few weeks.

I'll have to check out the performance of I Need My Girl. It's probably over of my least favorite songs on the new album but maybe this performance will change that.

I like you Mikal, but this is a bizarre opinion.

I love you too.

Generally, I have a love/hate relationship with The National. I love a lot of their stuff but they also frustrate me more than any band not named U2.

I realized today that Mistaken for Strangers is screening in Philadelphia on Sunday night with a Q&A with Matt and Tom following it. It's not sold out so I bought a ticket ($13) in case I end up not having plans on Sunday night.

That was cool. The Q&A was very funny. I'd like to see the movie again because it was tough to hear a lot of the interviews in the theater due to the band members not being mic'd and the crowd laughing a lot. But it was good, albeit shorter than I thought it would be.
