iron yuppie... you said you really connected with Bloodbuzz Ohio's lyrics. could you elaborate? i'm asking because there's only about five or six different lines in the entire song.

That's about 3 or 4 more than a typical LCD Soundsystem song at least.

It's more about a general feeling for me than any specific line. I was born and raised in Cleveland. I've since moved out of the state, but I still feel a strong connection to Cleveland in particular. To me, the lines about being carried back to Ohio and Ohio not remembering you represent something of a guilty feeling - of resenting that people kick a beleaguered city while it's down but also feeling that I have done something similar by leaving.

The line "the floors are falling out from everybody I know" also reminds me strongly of the times when my dad was laid off. Economic downturns impacted middle-class kids like me and my friends quite strongly, and seeing my parents in distress was definitely affecting. Granted, economic hardship occurs all over the United States, but the Great Lakes cities usually suffer more than others in recessions.

I guess that I can summarize by saying that I see the song as something of a conversation between me as a child and me as a young adult. That's probably more than you wanted to know - my apologies for the sentimentality.

no, not at all!! this forum doesn't have any near enough of explanations like this, i love reading them. thank you for elaborating. my favourite subject was always English so i love reading people's explanations for things rather than just "i really like..."

yeah, i know. it still made me laugh.

in other news, "lemonworld" is great. i know cobl said he's sick of seeing people post "OMG I LIEK THIS SONG" with no reasoning behind it. but i'm just not in the mood to try to lay that all out for you guys. in an out-of-character turn for me, it actually has to do with lyrics, and since i'm sure my interpretation is 100% off the mark, i just don't care to explain it. so there.

I'll try for you. It strikes me as a earnest yet ultimately futile attempt to connect with wider society. The narrator finds that the urban, suburban, and cultural landscapes all ring hollow.

i too like Lemonworld. no need for soul-bearing, revelational explanations whenever you say you like a song, but reasonings such as iYup's love for Bloodbuzz Ohio are great to read.

Looks like they'll be new National music next year. Doing a theme song for upcoming indie film.

The National contribute theme song for Sundance film Win Win Consequence of Sound
