Took the words out of my mouth. Like in many National songs, the protagonist in All the Wine is a sad, little, insecure human being who tries to escape reality with the most humiliating ways possible. One of those great tongue-in-cheek songs.

My favorite line from that song is "the motorcade will have to go around me this time."

i like "i'm a perfect piece of ass, like every Californian" because (i assume) it's a dig at Californians who think the world revolves around LA

I wish this bonus disc was available separately.

wtf. how have i not ever listened to these guys before? this is totally the kind of band i go completely apeshit over for a few months, proclaiming them HOLYFUCKINGAWESOMEAMAZING til i get sick of listening to ONLY them, move on and then really only marginally care about from there onwards. kind of how i feel about glasvegas or the brian jonestown massacre.

I've been listening a shit ton to them for the past eight months or so, and have yet to get sick of it at all.

What are you enjoying so far?

i was mocking music-listening habits, iwb-style.

goes something like this:
1. iwb hears band.
1a. it's a band with a previously started thread in b&c ----> i proclaim all over that thread how awesome they are/question how i never actually listened to them previously.
1b. it's a band no one seems to be discussing---->i proclaim all over that thread how awesome they are/and tell you all you need to listen to them as well.
2. iwb goes out and buys all the albums (or as many i can find on said cd shopping trip)
2a. i come in here and tell you all what i purchased
2b. i bump my thread and continue talking to myself
3. the album i most instantly fall in love with/containing the most songs i first heard lives in my car until i get sick of it. during this period i also irritate co-workers because i insist on listening to nothing else on the ipod at work.
4. rinse, repeat with another band.
4a.the band i'd just been ranting and raving about gets tossed onto the cd rack until i either feel like listening to them again, or a new album/concert some years down the line revives my interest.
4b. i forget completely to follow up and don't find out about a subsequent album, and really never listen to them again.

um, right now i really like bloodbuzz ohio and abel. and i see what's so awesome about "about today" and "england." that's as far as i've gotten so far.

not yet. still just youtubing songs while i play video games. stage 2 will be thursday when i get paid. so predictable, i am.

but really, i'm like one step away from telling you all about how "bloodbuzz ohio" is my new favorite song. actually, if i wasn't still on this ridiculous rem kick (a really long, drawn out variation of 4a in the progression, i guess?) i'd be doing that right now.

Bloodbuzz Ohio is just a phenomenal song, so you're right on with that.

Bloodbuzz, Conversation 16 and England have all survived in spite of the fact that I hardly ever listen to High Violet all the way through. Awesome songs.

Bloodbuzz is the perfect encapsulation of what it feels like to be from Ohio. The line "the floors are falling out from everybody I know" applies to so many different moments in my life that it's nearly frightening.

Neither of those are my High Violet favorites, although they're pretty great as well.

Terrible Love, Vanderlyle, Afraid of Everyone
