We can do this in a couple of different ways to make it more interesting:

List your 10 favourites each from 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and 00's but every single year of the decade does not need to be represented.

OR

List your 10 favourites from 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and 00's but every single year of the decade needs to be represented.

Artists may be repeated as many times as you like.

Btw, I said Big 50 but if you don't want to bother with too many decades, you can also simply pick one decade, I guess your favourite, and list your personal Top 10.

Have fun! I'll post mine a bit later.

Also, just so we are all on the same page...

You prefer that one to Takk eh? I haven't heard () yet.

I already had the list elsewhere, a bit out of date though forgot to add in Broken Social Scene's self titled sorry Bloc Party

Yup ( ) has always been a personal favourite of mine since I first heard it, Takk... is great though several songs on it are the reason I got into Sigur Rós

It hurts to do this... so many great albuns left out. (Also, The Stones are not even on my top 10 list.)

Going by my top 50 (I had to add and subtract a bit, only had 7 albums a piece from the 90s and 60s on there, I underlined the 7th album on both those lists to indicate that break, so 8-10 aren't actually on my overall top 50 and now I'm rambling):

I'm not doing the Naughts as they're not over yet.

I had the hardest time with the 70's and the 90's. I probably could have included Cockropa and Poppycock in the latter list but I felt it would be a bit too boring.

*The version I have includes the bonus Fairfax High, a second full-length disc of new material. I probably wouldn't include just the album itself on this list.

Nice to see your inclusion of Oh Mercy.

I wish I had room for that.

Tumbleweed Connection is really, really high on my all time list. I can't get enough of it.

Sure I'm a big fan. Wouldn't be here if I wasn't. But only of those two particular decades. I've never really wavered from my liking their 80s and 90s stuff, the latter being my favorite era of any band EVAR.

And there was no way I was leaving Oh Mercy off.

I'm going to feel weird about putting No Net on my 00's list, which is a likelihood. I think much of it can go toe-to-toe with the best stuff I've heard this decade, but I doubt any other album on the list will have the glaring flaws that are Stand Up Referee and Cock Crazy.

Of course, I'll be busy getting reamed for including Atomic Serve, so maybe no one will notice.

I wish I had the patience to write this stuff up. Suffice to say that the '60s would have all the relevant Velvets releases, along with as many Beatles albums as would fit, and that the Talking Heads, SFA, and especially Brian Eno would in later decades more than likely be overrepresented. I take these kinds of things way too seriously, ultimately, and writing up a list or lists becomes physically grueling. Ugh. I shudder at so much as the thought. Kudos to the lot of you.

I spent way too much time making my top 50 list in general, and I spend ridiculous amounts of time tweaking it (The file is literally always open on my computer) which is the only reason I came up with a list for this so quickly. Now I find myself going well out of my way to do the best album of each year list and it's not because I have nothing better to do, but that that something better to do is homework.

Forget Oh Mercy, you need to check out Mo' Mercy™!!

(right, YLB?)

It was fucking great. Listened to it on my trip from Tallahasee to Orlando, so I can't really remember which tracks were from the album, Bootleg series and other sources... but it all sounded fantastic together and an improvement on the original release.

It really, killed me to not have room for this. Or Homogenic, for that matter.
Or The Soft Bulletin. Like I said, the 90's list was ROUGH.

you've recommended this on a few occasions... i really should check it out. i think i've just been put off by the overwhelming number of "depressing break-up record" reviews i've seen/read etc.

It's so much more than that.

4. The Beatoffs, Revulva

Assengers - Original Badminton Tournaments 1

You guys should just meet up already and play some badminton in a red light district or something, geez!

Dude, I didn't think this would be too hard as it is only 10 from each decade.

Or just pick your fav decade!

It's been fun reading all your lists. Will post mine soon. Have to go thru my itunes by year. lol.

Thanks. I appreciate that. Out of all my album reimaginings, Mo' Mercy is definitely my favorite.
