since The Deputy has disappeared from the face of the earth, feared dead, or, at the very least, busy trying to come up with new #meme twets, and since Philadelphia Sports Fan is watching sports, or something, the task of collating votes from a small group of hive-minded people on the best albums of 2014 has fallen to cobl04, formerly known as COBL_04 and once ripped off as C0BL_04.

already, many, if not all, of you are doubtless annoyed at the irreverent and stupid direction I have taken this time-honoured thread.

but as the wise poet Tayler chansey-used-swift.pngSwift once said, the haters, they will hate, hate and then hate some more.

of course, we are duty bound to pay our respects to the fallen

and having done that, we can now move on to THE RESULTS.

I will post 20-11 tonight, and the top 10 one-by-one on the morrow.

20. FKA twigs - LP1 (23 votes / 2 nominations)
=18. Todd Terje - It's Album Time (24 / 3)
=18. Wild Beasts - Present Tense (24 / 3)
17. Manic Street Preachers - Futurology (26 / 2)
16. Real Estate - Atlas (29 / 4)

=14. Aphex Twin - Syro (30 / 5)
=14. Alcest - Shelter (30 / 2)
=12. Flying Lotus - You're Dead! (31 / 6)
=12. The Antlers - Familiars (31 / 5)
11. The New Pornographers - Brill Bruisers (40 / 5)

Hmmm....did U2 actually make the top 10? If so, that's pretty awesome considering the population of voters.

Not surprising, even with a somewhat mixed response. We are on a Shuttlecock forum, after all.

True. I'll have to dig up the old 2009 thread because for some reason I thought NLOTH performed pretty poorly which is why I seem a bit surprised. I could be wrong though.

Overall, kind of cool that we've had the same group of people doing this for so many years.

Looking forward to this. It's always my favorite thread of the year. I'll be upset if it's anything short of awesome cobbler.

I'm predicting that War On Drugs will be #1.

Also, I'm a little salty towards all of you for not including Glass Animals on the list.

=9. Lykke Li - I Never Learn (42 / 5)
p4k score - 8.4

"I could have lasted 32 minutes by myself and I would be beyond thrilled." - Imperor

"We were gonna go to the festival just for Lykke Li, she's so hot" - cobl04's new lesbian housemates

"2014. I Never Learn. This is the album that everyone, including myself, knew she had it in her to make. Raw, painful, emotional, and yet so beautifully rendered. I Never Learn is a break up album that truly feels like a successful therapy session, like something you can, well, learn from." - Mount Temple

8. D’Angelo and The Vanguard - Black Messiah (43 / 4)
homepage_large.dc7a8dc5.jpg

p4k score - 9.4

“Oh, shut the fuck up.” - lazarus

“I’ve played SpottieOttieDopalicious five times in a row.” - cobl04

“Not great. That being said, I totally respect and support the sociological message he is trying to send, and wish more musicians would attempt to make a statement with their music. The Black community needs more people in positions of high visibility like this to stand up against injustice. Hearing an artist use their art to express a sociopolitical viewpoint is another good reason to own this album. #blacklivesmatter” - Mount Temple

Somehow I fucked up the counting for Timber Timbre, I had it 10th, but it didn't receive that many votes. So 20-11 all move up a slot, so New Pornographers is 10th. Lykke Li outright ninth.

Wouldn't be a Cobbler thread without a fuck-up, eh?

Better to actually do it and fuck up, than to not do it all. Credit2ya
