The Beach boys reunion

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

Don't know why nobody else commented on this.....we'll be getting their first new album since 1992's god-awful Summer In Paradise along with a tour featuring all 5 bonafide former members that aren't deceased. If they get a good enough backing band, it could be a lot of fun...

...if they don't, it will be like Mike/Bruce's recent concerts. Please, don't Youtube that shit. Ugh.

If they come around these parts, I'm going. I don't know if it'll be good, or horrifying, or what, but that's something I'd like to see, however it turns out.

If Brian's going to be there, I'm going to be there.

I would be stunned if the album didn't blow though.

This guy could be there as well:

Maybe decent odds he's involved if they go up to Washington. Guaranteed he'll be at any California shows.

holy shit. i already know i won't be able to afford tickets even if they come around here, but i hope they tour near my parents. the beach boys are legit one of my dad's favourite bands. he saw them live back in the day, but still. kinda selfishly hoping they do the casino circuit, since that'll guarantee they'll go near them.

Not unless Brian Wilson lost his touch completely.

It's not like his solo albums have been anything to write home about.

Dear Mom,

Brian Wilson released his third solo album today! No, it wasn't Pet Sounds, or anywhere in the ballpark...but uh, yeah, he's trying. Didn't let craziness get him down or nothing. Ugh, I don't know why I wrote this. Fuck. Darn.

Love,

Your son

I can't wait to see what a difference Brian Wilson and a year makes. "The Beach Boys" were just here last year playing the county fair, and I'm pretty sure the show was free.

I predict a $200-$500 difference.

Maybe they'll knock off $100 or so to apologize for John Stamos.

For the record, I'm all talk and girlie swagger. I'm sure I'll still go if they come around here.

I'll just be sure to reserve my bathroom break for Kokomo.

Reuniting with the Beach Boys might be a tad more interesting for him than making solo music.

I've been brushing up on my Beach Boys history lately and have been watching some old 70's and 80's interviews with Brian Wilson on Youtube. Pretty fascinating stuff. The drug use of the early 70's really had a negative influence, and he seems to be on drugs during most of the interviews (at least in the 70's). There's a really sad performance of 'Good Vibrations' from Brian on SNL circa 1976-77. Also learned brother Dennis was heavily involved with Charles Manson and the Manson family, including letting them live at his Malibu mansion for a time.

It seems there is a general hatred for Mike Love on the internet. I guess he has sued Brian for writing credits on some of their early hits. Interesting that NBA All-Star, Kevin Love, is his nephew.

I also learned a bit of U2 trivia: Brian's writing partner on the infamous Smile album in 1966, Van Dyke Parks, later went on to compose the strings part on "All I Want Is You".

Nick Kent's 'The Dark Stuff' is a must read regarding Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys. Truly a fucked up, pathetic and ultimately tragic set up. Van Dyke Parks was also a nutjob.

I saw some dates on Ticketmaster, but it appears that like other acts, CA is the only state on the west coast.

So maybe I won't have to hem and haw about whether or not I should go.

On that note, a random thought: I'd love it so much if Animal Collective covered a Beach Boys album (SMiLE or Pet Sounds). It would be ridiculously good.
