I saw Lady Gaga on an interview on Fuse yesterday and she talked about the music her parents played around the house when she was a kid..she mentioned how she and her Dad are the biggest Bruce fans. I didn't know she's only 23.

great. now i feel old.

Yeah, he's in England promoting the London Calling release and threw us fans a bone about what's going on.

We'll see. They keep mentioning the project in dribs and drabs, and have been for three years. I'll take Christmas this year, but I'm not holding my breath.

Yeah Stevie said there working on the Darkness reissue at the moment and finishing lyrics and doing overdubs where needed, he said it will be released around Christmas, he also said he can't see Bruce & The E Street Band hitting the road till 2012,

I seen Stevie Sunday night in Hyde Park, he was showcasing 3 of his bands, there all really good!

Any news from anywhere about the Darkness remaster? A friend of mine swears he heard it was getting a Christmas release, and just asked if I'd heard anything about this following tidbit being included with the box set:

NEW YORK (AP) — An Emmy Award-winning filmmaker has collaborated with Bruce Springsteen on a new documentary that chronicles the recording of the Boss' 1978 album.
The film, "The Promise: The Making of Darkness on the Edge of Town," will premiere Sept. 14 at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Filmmaker Thom Zimny gained access to never-before-seen footage of rehearsals and recording sessions shot from 1976-78.

At the time, Springsteen was working to move past years of legal trouble and match the success he had with "Born to Run."

"The Darkness" album featured many songs recorded with a full band immediately after being written. Tracks covered the plight of average Americans, from the struggling everyday hero in "Badlands" to hopelessness in the title track.

This is the first shoe to drop.

Springsteen's official announcement:

Bruce Springsteen, Jon Landau Management, and Columbia Records are working on completing a new package related to 'Darkness on the Edge of Town,' which will include the new Thom Zimny film "The Promise: The Making of Darkness On The Edge Of Town." Further details will be announced when they are finalized.

"The Promise: The Making of Darkness On The Edge Of Town" will premier September 14 at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Sounds like it will be a reality this fall.

FINALLY.

For the first time, fans will have access to two discs containing a total of 21 previously-unreleased songs from the 'Darkness' recording sessions, songs that, as Springsteen writes, "perhaps could have/should have been released after 'Born To Run' and before the collection of songs that 'Darkness on the Edge of Town' became."

Highlights include the extraordinary rock version of "Racing in the Street," the never-before-released original recordings of "Because the Night," "Fire," and "Rendezvous," the supreme pop opus "Someday (We'll Be Together)," the hilarious "Ain't Good Enough for You," the superb soul-based vocal performance on "The Brokenhearted," the utterly haunting "Breakaway," and the fully orchestrated masterpiece and title song "The Promise." Wow, this is so cool. I've never owned a physical copy of the album before, can't really say why. It's the last Bruce album I got around to hearing and slowly becoming one of my favs.

Shuttlecock is going to have to try really hard to top this next year.

Awesome.

Hey phanan, I remember a while back you were saying that you were worried that the live concert DVD they'd give us would be one that has been around for a while and that people already know. You were saying that you hoped they would give us one of the unearthed films of a classic show that nobody had really seen.

Being a bit fucked up and so early in the morning and not willing to go back and search the thread: did they give us that? Or is that Houston '78 show the one you were worried they'd throw at us?

I don't even particularly care for Darkness and I'm blown away by this set. So many gigs...If this is what they can muster for Darkness, the wait for deluxe Nebraska won't be easy. Can you imagine the shit Bruce has in the vault for that one? Full electric Nebraska would be the best deluxe bonus ever. :hyper:

Also, yes GAF, we did get Houston '78. I haven't seen it, so I don't particularly care what show they offered. Just happy for more live Bruce.

Nope, Houston was one of the ones I was hoping for:

It was always happening. It was just a matter of specifics to be ironed out, and Landau making up his freakin' mind on what should be included. Most of the work has been in the can for months. They have multiple shows to choose from as well.

Just please don't choose an early show like Phoenix. The latter half of that tour is legendary and deserves to be represented, whether it is Houston, one of the MSG shows, one of the Passaic shows, Agora, or Winterland.

Any one of those will do.

There is actually incomplete audio of the Houston show in circulation, but the sound quality isn't as good as some of the other boots from '78, and obviously it isn't the full show either, so it's a perfect one to use.

And major props for Springsteen giving us a blu-ray version of this. That show is just going to blow people away in great quality like that.

Also, while I've been going on and on about this box for what seems like forever, and concentrating on which show would be included, let's not overlook that 21 previously unreleased songs spread out over two discs is just unbelievable. Quite a few of these songs are out there, and some in decent quality, but to finally hear The Promise, Because The Night, Fire, etc. from back then in pristine condition is just unreal.

Cannot wait.

Electric Nebraska is like the holy grail of unreleased Springsteen. Add the Nebraska versions of songs that made it onto Born In The USA and you've got one hell of an outtakes set.

They could even do a full show from early on in the USA tour, when he was featuring Nebraska material quite heavily. Then, when it is time to do the USA box, they can feature a show from the latter part, which had quite the different setlist by 1985.

And this gives me big hopes for what they'll do with The River. Holy fuck, that will be an absolute monster.

Is it November 16th yet?

On the main site, that little preview clip has about a minute of footage of Bruce and Stevie at a piano doing a little impromptu early version of Sherry Darling. Shit kicks a lot of ass.

It might just have to be a Bruce day today.

Wow, that's one hell of a reissue package. Looks as though he's trying to compete with Neil Young in terms of making his entire back catalogue accessible to the fans. More bands should follow suit.
