Generally I don't cry to music very much

Neither do I, it makes me feel isolated some times. Don't ask me why. When I got back to school and talked to people who went to U2, they said they cried and I felt a bit envious.I got very choked up during One though.

Kite gets me a lot. Especially now with the version on the WITS single. Edge's little guitar solo/part after the summer verse is just heartwrenching.

Calling All Angels – Jane Siberry and KD Lang (man I love Lang’s voice – strong and beautiful!)
Arms of the Angel – Sarah McLachlan – OMG just beautiful!
10,000 Miles – Mary Carpenter
Bridge Over Troubled Water - by any real good Gospel Choir
Let It Be

prob many more too, but these are definates!

River - by Natalie Merchant

That song knocks me around everytime i hear it. Especially Merchant's voice, you can feel the sadness in her voice. Singing about the unnecessary loss of a young life.

River Phoenix will be forgotten in time, just like everyone and everything, however that song just captures that moment in time

Death And All His Friends - Coldplay

It's the song that was playing when I was driving to the hospital at 2 a.m., after my Grandma died, to see her body and say my goodbyes. I just kept it on repeat and now I can't hear that song without thinking of her.

Let's see...I'll definitely second "Kite", "Fix You", "No Surprises", "Tears In Heaven", "Imagine" (I'd also like to add Neil Young's version of that song that he did at a 9/11 tribute thing-that one had me sobbing), and "In My Life". Ditto to the 'Edward Scissorhands' one, too-the "Grand Finale" music is definitely cry-worthy.

Others...

"Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own"-U2
"Walk On"-U2 (the "Home" bit gets to me sometimes)
"Blackout"-Muse (if I'm in the right frame of mind)
"Lullaby Requiem"-Neil Finn
"Don't Dream It's Over"-Crowded House
"Father and Daughter"-Paul Simon (this one'll especially get me now...)
"The Drugs Don't Work"-The Verve
"September When It Comes"-Johnny & Roseanne Cash
"Don't Give Up"-Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush (something about her voice on that song...it just hits me emotionally)
"This Woman's Work"-Kate Bush
"Grapevine Fires"-Death Cab For Cutie (Narrow Stairs in general is depressing as hell. Good album, but not something you're gonna throw on at a party, that's for sure. The video for this song made it even more sad)
"I Will Follow You Into The Dark"-Death Cab For Cutie
"You Belong To Me"-Jason Wade (of Lifehouse) cover
"You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go"-Madeline Peyroux cover

That's all that comes to mind for me right now.

No Surprises - Radiohead
Reckoner - Radiohead
Tunnels - Arcade Fire
Intervention - Arcade Fire
4th Time Around - Bob Dylan
A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall - Bob Dylan
Chimes of Freedom - Bob Dylan
Shelter From The Storm - Bob Dylan
One - U2
Where The Streets Have No Name - U2
Walk On - U2
The Unforgettable Fire - U2
Jealous Guy - John Lennon

All of which are melancholia/nostalgia-related, save for Streets, which, when I hear it on a good day, make me happy and hopeful and filled with a sense of wonder. Greatest song ever :cute:

Walk On made me cry buckets this last summer when I first heard it live, I think it's because I neglected it somewhat leading up to the shows, and that it was one of the first U2 songs I ever heard. Especially the latter half of the song really gets me.

Both All I Want and Home from the new LCD Soundsystem album move me quite a bit.

i've never really cried listening to music though. Kite gets me pretty worked up.

I don't cry often when listening to music. But there are some songs where it could occasionally happen.
U2 - Kite
U2 - In A Little While
Radiohead - Nude
Sigur Rós - Hoppipolla
Bloc Party - Biko

I can cry very easily with this one
YouTube - Amália /**Mal Aventurado**/

and this one as well.

YouTube - Amália /**Abandono**/

And it's "funny" 'cause I did it only listening to it again to post here.
The first one because I love the poem written in the XVI century, it's about a desire of death to come and that puts an end to a bad fate "you" cannot avoid after trying to avoid that destiny so many times. The second one because it's about the political prisoners that no one would ever hear from them again during the fascist era, it reminds me of it.

Wow, some of those songs on my original list (Celine? Avril? etc) still make me cry, but now it's from embarrassment. Also, I'd like to amend my list to add MJ's "Man in the Mirror", "Human Nature", and "Stranger in Moscow". I don't know how I left them off the first time, but especially now they get me. If I just hear the opening to "MITM", I start bawling.

normally i hate commercialism and especially pop music!

however, Stranger in moscow by Michael Jackson is very sad song

the other Michael Jackson song is Will You Be There

Couple random comments:

1. Those Amália songs were stunningly beautiful. Particularly the first one. Wow. Thanks for sharing those, Aygo-I've never heard of her before, but now I'm intrigued. Also appreciate the backstory about the songs' meanings, too.
2. I've heard so much about Sigur Ros and yet never heard anything by them until now (I'm late to the party, I know, I know...). Nice to finally have that change-love the music, preeeeeeeeetty stuff (and the video for that first song...awwwwww, no! Though I want that red dress).

Just wanted to say that. Back on topic-a couple more songs to add to the crying list: "The Blower's Daughter" by Damien Rice, and "Candle In The Wind" by Elton John.

Ohhh, I didn't even think about that one. It definitely gets me choked up too. "I'll Be There" makes me tear up too. His voice in that song and the emotion in his voice at 11-12 years old was amazing. Pure genius.

Thanks a lot for the youtube links, guys - lots of stuff I've never heard and am loving becoming acquainted with all the new material (the sigur ros stuff above was pretty awesome). Here are a few of my "wonderfully depressing/ chew up your soul and spit it out"-type songs...

I suppose that does it for now. Off to eat dinner and continue my studies...
