Rolling Stone Magazine's 5 star rated albums

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

Completely changed my mind about him to, then I changed it back with his next album. I like my beck to be a heartbroken sad bastard beck

Are you familiar with Nick Drake? Because he has three albums that will deliver that. They were a huge influence on Sea Change. Speaking of which, it's a shame that Pink Moon was overlooked.

'00s

Sufjan Stevens - Greeting from Michigan
Interpol - Turn on the Bright Lights
Arcade Fire - Funeral
Radiohead - In Rainbows
The National - Boxer (or alligator, i dunno. seems so prententious to pick the older one just because its older)
Fleet Foxes

I am not, but I will make myself familiar  thanks!

Here are a bunch of '90's classics I would at least consider adding to the list (some are more certain than others):

Radiohead - 'OK Computer' & 'The Bends'
My Bloody Valentine - 'Loveless'
Sigur Ros - 'Agaetis Byrjun'
Ride - 'Nowhere'
Belle and Sebastian - 'If You're Feeling Sinister'
The Dismemberment Plan - 'Emergency & I'
Slowdive - 'Souvlaki'
Pavement - 'Crooked Rain Crooked Rain'
Neutral Milk Hotel - 'In Aeroplane Over the Sea'
Nirvana - 'Nevermind'
U2 - 'Actung Baby'
Beta Band - 'The Three EPs'
Weezer - blue album
Yo La Tengo - 'I Can Hear the Heart Beating As One'
Smashing Pumpkins - 'Siamese Dream'
Portishead - 'Dummy'
DJ Shadow - 'Endtroducing...'
Built to Spill - 'Keep It Like a Secret'
Morrissey - 'Your Arsenal' and / or 'Vauxhall and I'
Mogwai - 'Young Team'
Modest Mouse - 'The Lonesome Crowded West'
Massive Attack - 'Mezzanine'
Manic Street Preachers - 'The Holy Bible'
Fugazi - '13 Songs'
Flaming Lips - 'The Soft Bulletin'
The Cure - 'Wish'
Cocteau Twins - 'Heaven or Las Vegas'
AFI - 'Black Sails in the Sunset'
Boards of Canada - 'Music Has the Right to Children'
Bjork - 'Debut' or 'Post' or 'Homogenic' you decide
Beastie Boys - 'Check Your Head'
Autechre - 'Amber' and/or 'Tri Repetae'
American Music Club - 'Everclear'
Air - 'Moon Safari'
Dr. Dre - 'The Chronic'

Some of these are obviously more arguable than others, but I tried to include ones that I know certain demographics would kill if they weren't included. In the end, it's all relative.

I think there are some on that list that, at the time, I wouldve included, but they just didnt have the staying power for me. for example, I would never pull out Nevermind and sit and listen to it these days. That might be a bad example, as nobody can deny the importance of that album (though some muppet at a party once tried to tell me that the offspring was a more influential band in the 90s than Nirvana). But you know what i mean.....I guess thats no better than RS going back with their revisionist pens and increasing scores based on events after an albums release. (did they not do that with both Nevermind and OK Computer??)

The 90s list is ridiculous. No Being There, The Soft Bulletin, or OK Computer? Come on!

Anyway, Rolling Stone is one of the last places I'd ever look for reviews.

There are quite a few on that list that I was tempted to add, but they just werent quite there. Dog Man Star in particular. I loved that album, but there were a few tracks that didnt quite do it for me. I'm surprised you included Coming Up. I remember being quite disappointed with it. A few really catch tunes, but nothing with the gravitas of Dog Man Star

gotta represent.....have you heard their new single? I've only heard it once and am not sure what to make of it yet
