I didn't really like Green Day before I started listening to punk with any regularity and I certainly don't now.

But honestly, I thought American Idiot was entertaining and ambitious and I got a lot out of it. When I was 13, that album was the shit. On the other hand, 21st Century Breakdown was one of the more dispiriting listening experiences I've had and I listened to the trilogy of albums they put out recently and they were all bad. I'm going to assume that they have nothing left to give.

I will say that I don't know of many rock bands that were revitalized as late in life as they were, but that's no reason to canonize them.

You can do worse. I mean, don't get too freaky now:

"Who buys U2 records anyway? It's just music for plumbers and bricklayers. Bono, what a slob. You'd think with all that climbing about he does, he'd look real fit and that. But he's real fat, y'know. Reminds me of a soddin' mountain goat."
"And as for Bono, he needs a colostomy bag for his mouth."

Journey is at 1 and Pearl Jam is at 5. This is wrong.

Here is the updated link, you have to vote to see the totals but it still seems like journey, Pearl Jam, elo, the cars, and yes will make it. I wish depeche mode would knock Pearl Jam out because this is their first year of eligibility but I digress.

Don't have too much sympathy for Depeche Mode, they shouldn't be getting in before New Order anyway.

2Pac getting into the rock and roll hall of fame before Joy Division and The Smiths is fucking stupid.
