I didn't see any threads for previous years, so I figured I'd get one going.

April 18 is Record Store Day. It's a great way to support your local independent music store, and there's some very cool items that will be available.

Wilco Ashes of American Flags DVD DVD is released with an exclusive window of two weeks for indie stores and mail order

Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs It’s Blitz LP vinyl version of forthcoming Yeah Yeah Yeahs CD

I sometimes buy vinyl versions of my favorite albums just to display them. I have the Sigur Ros box set of all their albums up until Takk on vinyl, the In Rainbows disc box, some Okkervil vinyl, etc.

I do not have a record player, nor do I plan on getting one.

how can you of all people not have a record player? That's all you need to become the uber-indie-hipster-douche

Come on, man. I'm right here.

I have to get my hands on the MMJ set. And It's Blitz (I'm sad it's not released today). And the Lips/Keys split. And the Conchords single just for "Albi the Racist Dragon." I'll be spending a lot of money that day.

I'm jelly, Scummers. I wish I had the In Rainbows discbox. And I wish I had In a Frozen Sea, but it's fucking expensive. I'll just pick up AB and ( ) reissues in a couple months. Don't want Takk anyway.

At some point I'll probably get a record player, I already know I won't really use it though.

If I had a record player, I'd buy that Springsteen release. Dang, I want a quality version of that Jersey Devil song, not the crummy rip I have on MP3.

I support two local record shops very frequently. Thank you, Sonic Boom and Easy Street of Seattle, WA!

My favorite Milwaukee record shop recently closed. RIP, Atomic Records. :(

this fills me with Sigur-Sadness...

I meant to say I don't want to buy Takk again. Once was enough. I don't hate it or anything, but some stuff I don't want to spend large amounts of coin for. By the way, we're talking about the Canadian constitution in my Constitutional Design course right now. It's all fucking nonsense.

Scums, I didn't think I'd use it too terribly much either. Now I listen to three or four a day.

ah fair enough, it's pretty crazy up here with our legalized pot and gay marriages...

Not surprisingly, I'm really looking forward to the Wilco DVD. One of the colleges in my town will be showing it in their movie theater that weekend, too. I'll be the one hiding in the back being all :hyper:

Yeah, I won't immediately be picking up the film since I'm going to see it at the Alamo two weeks from yesterday. I've wasted a lot of money on concert DVDs that I only watch once or twice over the years, so I'll be happy with spending a dollar to see the film on the big screen.

Same here. I have a number I've never even put in a DVD player yet....

That one is definitely on my list.

I have an nice Onkyo record player that my father-in-law gave to me some time ago after he replaced it with a newer one. I don't buy vinyl that often, but I do like to collect intriguing oddities and albums with gorgeous artwork.

WHATTTTT!!!! Atomic is closed???!?!?! Crap. I hit that store every time I'm in WI, usually 2-3 times a year. Was just there in August. I was in WI in December but don't remember if I visited Atomic during that trip. Been buying from Atomic since 1990. Wow. I've gotten some good U2 vinyl there over the years.

That was the first place I discovered U2 bootlegs. Cassette bootlegs!

A friend who still lives in Wisconsin had shared a link to their site a few months ago announcing their closing. Not sure if it's happened yet or not.

This applies to bootlegs as well. I haven't even listened to half of what I own past the first few songs to determine if the sound quality is satisfactory.

But I'm with BIMM. That Wilco set is the item I'm most excited about on the list and may pick it up for the occasion.

I just called them. They are officially closed. Guy told me there would be some sort of web presence back online in a month or so, possibly through Amazon. They had a week of blow out sales and a big "rummage" sale event at the MSOE campus over the weekend.

I'll be out there in June, and I would have cruised over and been really put out to find them closed. Well, here's hoping Oakland Gyros will still be there!

Isn't it really more indie to buy vinyls and not have a record player?

I like to think of it as meaning I like spending money more than actually listening to music.

OK, I don't like to think of it that way at all.

I looked up a few of those releases from my supplier, and he doesn't show them available. I wonder how one would qualify for "indie-ness" as I thought that what might be what I was considered, though I don't sell the usual kind of stuff. :shifty:

Support your local stores, while they are still around. They're a dying breed

I can't remember how that all works. You have to be an independent store, but part of some "independent chain union" type thing. I remember reading about it somewhere once, and it honestly read as being ultra "corporate". I usually don't care about that kind of thing, but it just seemed fairly ironic in this context.

I don't have a local record store, as it turns out. I can only find CDs at Best Buy, and that's 25 minutes away. And you wonder why I download.
