Since 2009's wrapping up and I think many of us have attended a lot of shows this year, I was just curious to see what the best acts everyone saw was. Here's my list.

1. U2 360 at Giants Stadium Night 2
2. Paul McCartney at Citifield
3. Nine Inch Nails at Terminal 5
4. All Points West Festival (highlights are St. Vincent, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Coldplay)
5. The Killers at MSG
6. Ra Ra Riot at Webster Hall
7. Nine Inch Nails/Jane's Addiction at Jones Beach Theater
8. Depeche Mode at MSG
9. Evanescence at Manhattan Center
10. Emilie Autumn at Highline Ballroom
11. Keane at Radio City
12. Paramore at Hammerstein Ballroom

1. U2 (9/12 Chicago)
2. We Came As Romans, Oh, Sleeper, The Chariot
3. Wilco
4. Coldplay
5. So Many Dynamos, Maps & Atlases
6. Los Campesinos!

i think that's all I saw this year.

That's a toughie.

1) The Killers at Lollapalooza (There are some more factors than just the show to that one)
2) U2 at Cowboy's Stadium
3) The Mountain Goats
4) The Horrors

5) OneRepublic (just didn't want you to think this show was anywhere near being in the same league as the others).

Also, I just mentioned one band from Lolla, but overall that was a fantastic gig.

1. Flaming Lips
2. Tori Amos
3. Nick Cave & Bad Seeds
4. V Festival (highlights: Elbow , The Do, The Kills)
5. Sarah Blasko
6. Coldplay
7. Doves
8. Fleet Foxes

Haven't been to that many concerts this year.

This has been the best year for concerts and I refuse to do anything but list them in alphabetical order

Coldplay
Fleet Foxes
The National
Sufjan Stevens
The Twilight Sad
The Walkmen
U2

Throw in a Louis CK show and it was the best ticket purchasing year ever

Well, I just went to probably my last gig for 2009, so now seems as good a time as any to do a ranking!

1. 2009-03-14: Sound Relief - primarily for Paul Kelly, Liam Finn/Crowded House, Hunters & Collectors, Split Enz, and Midnight Oil
2. 2009-10-09: Sleepmakeswaves
3. 2009-11-07: Tim Finn
4. 2009-11-12: Dimmer
5. 2009-12-04: Laura and Mono
6. 2009-11-25: Opeth
7. 2009-07-24: U2
8. 2009-01-29: "A Secret In The Shape Of A Song" - The Triffids & Friends
9. 2009-07-21: U2
10. 2009-12-05: The Church
11. 2009-12-03: Boom Crash Opera
12. 2009-11-20: Pearl Jam (I should point out the primary attraction for me was Liam Finn, one of the support acts)
13. 2009-07-27: U2
14. 2009-07-25: U2
15. 2009-07-20: U2
16. 2009-07-11: U2
17. 2009-07-12: U2

Good year I'd say; not a truly bad gig. 17th place does not stick fondly in my memory but that was probably more due to crowd conditions.

1. Muse - The Den, Teignmouth
2. U2 - Wembley Stadium, London
3. Muse - The O2, London
4. Green Day - Wembley Arena, London

:hmm: I haven't been to many concerts this year, ah well, next year will be better!

U2 - NJ2, Bos1, Bos 2 (Muse, Snow Patrol, Snow Patrol)
Doves
Coldplay / Elbow
Bloc Party

Not ranked, and not a whole lot, but some of my favorite current bands.

oh and Guster for free at my school, but meh.

Not possible for me even to remember, let alone count, all the shows I went to, this year. Nor have I yet gone to all the shows I will, by the time the year is actually over. Some highlights, though, so far include...

A few Los Campesinos! gigs
A few Future of the Left gigs
The Hidden Cameras/Gentleman Reg
Crystal Castles, at Lollapalooza (no joke. the set was insane)
Yo La Tengo
The Horrors
The Pains of Being Pure at Heart/Depreciation Guild (the latter band also outperformed School of Seven Bells at its own headlining show, a few weeks later, which was quite the spectacle)
The Wrens
A Place To Bury Strangers/Dead Confederate
The Hold Steady

...and no doubt will soon include The Jesus Lizard, on New Year's Eve.

MASSIVE disappointments have included the aforementioned School of Seven Bells, A Sunny Day In Glasgow (whose record is stunning), and the audience at a Dan Deacon show. I still shudder to remember those fucking scumbags. A Halloween gig by the acid-fried Roky Erickson was also disappointing, but only in the sense that the guy is mentally unstable and therefore not exactly the performer he once was; given his state, the show was actually quite stunning. Just really sad.

Decent shows from U2 and Depeche Mode, too. Hardly anything to write home about, in the grand scheme of things.

I saw more shows this year than most, but very few stand out as sublime or anything, so the rankings are pretty irrelevant after about 4-5.

10. Built to Spill.
9. Steely Dan. On the river, under the summer sky. I went on a whim and was not disappointed.
8. Spoon, New Orleans Jazz Fest. I usually hate the festival gigs, but this was a great set.
7. Mute Math.
6. Death Cab for Cutie, Ra Ra Riot, and Cold War Kids. An outstanding triple bill.
5. Wilco. Memphis and New Orleans Jazz Fest, but Memphis was much better. Big Star covers included.
4. Los Campesinos!
3. Mitch Easter. Earnestine & Hazel's, Memphis. I never stopped smiling the whole time.
2. The Gospel Tent, New Orleans Jazz Fest. No kidding. My most exuberant musical experience in a long time. It didn't matter who was onstage - kids or Mavis Staples - it was all exceptional, energetic, and joyful.
1. U2, Boston 1 & 2. I guess this is obligatory, but it's always a quasi-religious pilgrimage for me.

1. Bruce Springsteen- DC 11/2
2. Bruce Springsteen- Atlanta 4/26
3. U2- Atlanta 10/6
4. B.B. King- Baltimore 3/29

Slow year for me. Many more to come in 2010!

I'm not sure any concert will ever compare to seeing the Manic Street Preachers in Hollywood this year. God, that was amazing.

I would say Garnet Rogers tied U2 for the top concert. Garnet is always in top form whenever I get the opportunity to see him live and U2.. finally the first long awaited live show was impeccable. I keep looking at the videos and thinking.. oh I wish I could be there.. and then.. oh yea.. I took that video :faint:

A slow concert-going year for me.

1. Los Campesinos!, El Rey (Los Angeles)
2. Shuttlecock, Rose Bowl
3. The Dirty Projectors, Jensen's Rec Center (Los Angeles)
4. Philip Glass w/ Los Angeles Philharmonic, Hollywood Bowl
5. Raphael Saadiq/Santogold/Femi Kuti, Hollywood Bowl
6. Bob Dylan/George Thorogood, The Palladium (Los Angeles)
7. The Henry Clay People, Spaceland (Los Angeles)
8. Shuttlecock, Las Vegas
9. M-83 w/ Los Angeles Philharmonic, Walt Disney Concert Hall
10. Blitzen Trapper/Jenny Lewis/Ray Lamontagne, Hollywood Bowl

2009 has been a good year for concerts for me.

1. U2 - Croke Park, Dublin 1 (not only the best of the year but best ever!)
2. U2 - Wembley, London
3. U2 - Don Valley, Sheffield (tied with 2nd place to be honest)
4. Aphex Twin - Warehouse Project, Manchester
5. Massive Attack - Manchester Apollo
6. Morrissey - Manchester Apollo
7. Arctic Monkeys - Manchester Arena

All very good gigs though really, hoping 2010 is just as good :D

1. Tori Amos 21/11 - Perth
2. Tori Amos 16/11 - Canberra
3. Tori Amos 12/11 - Melbourne
4. Tori Amos 13/11 - Melbourne
5. V Fest 4/4 - Killers, Snow Patrol, Duffy, Howling Bells. . . Awesome!
6. Coldplay 5/3 - Melbourne
7. Big Day Out Melbourne

Tori wins on pure awesomeness, and the 59 different songs she played, Its been a pretty quiet year for me. Still have Green Day to come.

U2- Berlin (one of my favorite concerts ever)
Damien Rice- Mexico City (acoustic solo tour, amazing)
Peter Gabriel- Mty (first time)
The Killers- Mty, Mex (probably one of the best concerts I've been to in Mty, usually crowds in here are lame, but crowd knew every single song)
Broken Social Scene- Austin, TX
Kings Of Leon- Mty
Nine Inch Nails- Budapest (no elaborate stage just 4 guys at what seemed like a school gym)
Travis- Mty (opening for Peter Gabriel, just greast since I've just become a fan recently)
Keane- Mty (very surprised by the energy)

There's more but not worth mentioning I guess

I'll bite, but I really can't rank them, so this is just an in-no-order list of shows I especially loved this year. Let's call it a top 11:

Dirty Projectors @ Antone's
Animal Collective @ Stubb's
TV on the Radio @ Stubb's
Bon Iver @ ACL Festival
St. Vincent @ Mohawk
Okkervil River @ ACL Studio
Phoenix @ ACL Festival
Grizzly Bear @ ACL Festival
The Dead Weather @ ACL Festival
Broken Social Scene @ Seaholm Power Plant
Yeah Yeah Yeahs @ ACL Festival

1. Pearl Jam - Berlin 2009 (by far the best one)
2. Faith No More - Nova Rock Festival, 2009
3. U2 - Zagreb I & II 2009
4. Mudhoney - Zagreb 2009
5. Alice in Chains - Budapest 2009
6. Metallica - Nova Rock Festival, 2009 (this would probably be higher if there wasn't a torrential downpour during the whole concert, in the end I was freezing to death)

In no particular order:

Daniel Lanois and his Black Dub project - AB, Brussels (new album will be great!)
Wilco - AB, Brussels
Elbow - Marconi Studios, Brussels (small gig, 200 people)
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Werchter Festival (and Nick Cave, Fleet Foxes,...)
Gutter Twins - Cactus Festival
Neil Young - Sportpaleis, Antwerp
U2 - Amsterdam Arena

And maybe the best is yet to come: Zita Swoon 15th anniversary concert!

:reject: lol to bad I went with a girl who didn't knew who was Damien Rice!

He has been excellent all three times I've seen him, but I never listen to him anymore. Maybe that needs to change soon.

Slow concert year:

1 and 2) U2 in Vegas and LA. - Religious experience
3) No Doubt in San Diego - Great energy
4) Incubus - Hollywood Bowl - Yeah, they were awesome.
5) Depeche Mode - Honda Center - the crowd was so very disappointing, but they sounded really good.

1. Pearl Jam
2. Coparck
3. Beirut
4. Metric
5. Faith no More
6. U2
7. Fever Ray
8. Johan
9. Devotchka
10. Grizzly Bear

I only saw 2 shows in 2009-

The Church- 7/8/09- Irving Plaza, NYC

This was my first time seeing The Church and it was definitely an amazingly hypnotic show. The band played well and the venue was pretty intimate. I probably had the best spot for a concert ever, so I was able to see the band up close.

U2- 9/24/09- Giants Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ

U2 were awesome as always. It was my 10th time seeing them. I felt they performed better now than the Vertigo tour. The Claw was a definite eye-bug. The only thing that bothered me was when fans were leaving way before the show was over. Like during Streets for Christ's sake! Stay for the whole show.

Anyway, those were my 2 concerts that I attended this year. Both awesome and on 2 completely different levels. :hyper:

It was an okay year for me concert-wise, both in quality and quantity.

1) U2 09/17 - Rogers Centre-Toronto
2)Kings of Leon - 09/20 - John Labatt Centre - London (because of the company I was with)
2)The Killers 04/27 - Rexall Place - Edmonton
3)U2 10/28 - B.C. Place - Vancouver
4)Band of Horses 09/05 - Royal Theatre- Victoria
5) Plants & Animals 03/20 - Starlite Room - Edmonton
6)U2 09/16 - Rogers Centre - Toronto
7)Priestess - 11/28- Starlite Room- Edmonton
